No gen-jumps but still going strong

You have heard of the 'twenty year leap' syndrome,

haven't you? Most of the long running soapy weepy sagas have succumbed to it. Be it Kyunki…, Kkusum, Kasauti, Astitva Ek Prem Kahanni, Bhabhi… and the list can go on. After all, how long can you stretch a story.

So, the formula applied here by programmers is simple - bring in newer, younger faces, introduce a new track and plot but keep the old story intact. A double bonanza for channels, so-to-speak, old viewers will continue to watch the serial due to sheer habit and at the same time rope in newer viewers.

But, somehow, one serial which stands out from the crowd is Star's Kumkum - Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan. Refusing to succumb to the pressure, three years, sans a single leap, the soap stands rock solid in the afternoon band.

It was with a great sense of dj vu that I caught up with the Wadhwa parivaar; after almost six months. I didn't see Aman Varma or Renuka who played the negative role in the serial. Instead there was Kabir Sadanand. Who is now the villain and seems to have murdered somebody.

I think the success of this sitcom lies in its simplicity and lack of pretension in its presentation. The main protagonist Kumkum (Juhi Parmar) has appealed to viewers right from the very first episode. A slightly offbeat love story, to begin with, where after losing her husband Kumkum later gets married to Sumeet (Hussain), her brother-in-law.

I think, it's the Sumeet-Kumkum jodi which has also played a key role in the popularity of the serial. There's also a certain depth and honesty about their on-screen relationship which manages to strike a chord among viewers.

thanx 4 sharin damsel~~.😊 kool!!!😉 n it's gr8 n i only hope n pray 2 allah that kumkum always stayz this way n there is no leap in kumkum eva. i can't leave with that.

Thanks a lot mehr for sharing such a great article with us .wow kumkum is sooo famous and is the best in the afternoon actually if u go to see it more better thne some on the nite time serails too dont u all think ..and ofcouse the show has also become popular cause of ur best jodi 👏...
