Dear KKB Team,
I am writing this note to express my disappointment with your show " Kumkum Bhagya".
As a first time viewer of any show, I was deterred initially by the name of the show as I felt that it is going to be a very regressive, kumkum, MS kind of a show. To my surprise, I was magnetically drawn by the characterization of Pragya who was the essence of the show. The dignity, poise, self-respect, determination with which this young woman faced any adversity head on and found practical solutions was amazing and her simple and forthright nature is what kept me glued to the show. Abhi later slowly grew on me as a pompous and mighty RS who is hard on the surface but with a tender heart. I admit that I did not like all the traits of the protagonists but the essence of the characters was quite palatable to me. The trials and tribulations and their love story during the first year is nothing short of spectacular. I do understand that for a show to be successful, there is a need for strong villains, drama, cinematic liberties along with a tight story line.
Then came the second year of baby drama. This was a disgustingly long drama that tested everybody's patience. But still I stuck to it, albeit refusing to watch several times when my sensibilities were challenged. I hoped that the good will prevail and evil will perish. While this did not happen, we were thrown into a deeper abyss.
The third year with the memory loss drama appears to be the most appalling of all. I have to say this is the most demeaning of all the tracks so far shown towards the woman/wife. For the loving husband to just forget the wife, marriage and the wife's family is absurd. We were told time and again by several characters in the show about a hypothetical " dil ka rishta". To have the loving husband completely forget the wife despite interacting with her, coming across some of the things that had a lot of sentimental value and still move on as if nothing mattered is just beyond me. And on top of that remembering the " other woman " with fondness and forgetting the evil that she is and wanting to be with her is beyond sickening. At the beginning of this track, I was thinking that I would feel awful if Abhi with ML would forget wife Pragya and fall in love with receptionist Pragya. Such were my expectations. Little did I know that we would be served an even more ludicrously, inane story.
Your story hurt my sentiments and is offensive to my sensibilities at so many levels. For a wife to watch helplessly as her loving husband is shamelessly ogling at the "other woman" is atrocious to me, ML or not. This is so not required. And to have the man molested in a inebriated state for the vamp's benefit is equally appalling. And then to use those pictures as "proof " that the vamp is publicly shamed and therefore worthy of a permanent commitment is regressive to say the least. To have the Abhi with ML ask Pragya to decorate the venue for his romantic interlude, to show Pragya reminiscing their past, to have Abhi practicing his proposal lines on an unsuspecting Pragya is vulgar. Despite their intense, heart touching proposals to each other, not to even have an inkling of memory with the current lewd proposal is preposterous. The lines you gave Abhi to say to the "other woman" and to have Pragya watch this is simply crude, obscene and degenerate. That was the last straw for me.
You not only humiliated a young woman but also robbed her of all self respect and dignity. You completely decimated the concept of marriage and responsibilities of a wife and husband towards each other in that marriage. In short, you killed the essence of the show for me. You killed the Pragya I fell in love with and the Abhi I liked.I am not interested in how you are trying to legitimize an illegitimate relationship between Abhi, the husband and the vamp and throwing the wife in the middle as a hindrance to that relationship.
So writers, producers and actors, before I take a bow, I want you to think with some social responsibility when you are making your show. Please know that unlike the movies which last for a couple of hours, your TV shows have a lot of impact on the large sect of the population as they span several years. Think about that young adolescent mind, or that naive mind in a rural area with minimal exposure to the glitter and shimmer or a unscrupulous mind watching your show ardently. Think about the impressions and the ideas you are creating in them. To show them that to have a life filled with glitter and glamour, you need to cheat is too simplistic a message. To show the actual evil acts with utmost clarity is irresponsible on your part. To portray the villains always unpunished for unspeakable crimes is unjustifiable. To have the good people always being manipulated, suffering, gullible, dense, impulsive gives what kind of a message to the society? I am seriously aggravated by what we are shown. Please show some justice, triumph of good over evil. Drama has to be gripping, not repulsive or revolting.
You have the best team working with the show. You have the most amazing leads who breathe life into the characters. You have excellent writers who can make the story spectacular again. You have the best production house that provides all the required support for the show. Please make it glorious again.
Thank you, very much.
Mili.
P.S. Hello Everyone! Please pour out your thoughts on how the injustice to AbhiGya needs to be stopped and Tanu should stop being the third wheel. This will be sent to the kkb team who are on social networking sites. So please do join and express your opinion on this matter. Thank you!
