Abhigya OS: Auld Lang Syne
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and days of auld lang syne ?
Pragya sat in the dining room thinking of him. She had successfully brought him back home a week ago but he had come home with a condition that he won't talk to her or even look at her. She had agreed then. But she regretted now. She wouldn't have felt that bad of he shouted at her or threw accusations but him ignoring her was simply horrid. She wished she could tell him but she hadn't achieved her goal yet. The two witches were still at home. Yet her heart longed for him.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
Abhi looked at her sadly sitting by the dining table with a cup in her hand. He knew that the cup was empty. He shook his head at the irony of it all. Here he thought he knew every little thing about her but there she sat thinking that she had fooled him. He missed her so much. He missed everything about her and regretted the day he chose to ignore her. He could have thought of some other way to bring out the truth. He looked at her and thought how much he missed the old her.
And surely you'll buy your pint cup !
and surely I'll buy mine !
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
She sighed and wished she knew a way to get through him. If only he would look at her way once. If only she could just pull him to her and make him look at her. If only...
"Why not tell the truth?"
"Uh? Aap... When did you come?"
"When you were blabbering to yourself"
"Oh... That... uh... Well I have work to do. I must leave."
He held her hands.
"For once, please forget that you have changed. Please let us be like the way we used to be. Just this once."
She looked at him and her heart melted. She slowly sat down on the chair and whispered.
"Just this once."
"Yes... Now can I fill your cup?"
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.
They sat there silently for a long while and tried to think of something they could talk. Abhi let out a small laugh.
"Why are you laughing?"
"I was just thinking that how only about a month ago you kept on talking and I had to put my hands over my ears to stop you. And now..."
"We have been sitting for about half an hour and not uttered a single word."
"Yes... Remember the time we got lost in the jungle? We went in different directions and finally ended up together?"
"Haha... that was such an experience. And do you remember the time we really got lost? You got shot in the jungle and..."
"And you saved my life"
We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.
Pragya looked at him and turned away. The memories were getting painful now. She took her cup once again in her hands and twirled it absent mindedly.
"The cup is empty again."
"Uh?"
"You drank your tea half an hour ago as soon as I poured it"
"Uh... Yes... I need to go."
He held her hand again and pulled her close to him.
"Fuggy, I know that you will never hurt me. Why are you doing all this? You who saved my life can never think of breaking my heart"
Pragya looked at his eyed filled with tears and hope and she wished with all her heart to tell him but from the corner of her eyes she caught Aaliyah entering the room.
"That was another person. She is dead. You don't know the real me"
Abhi sighed. He couldn't get her to tell the truth. He felt defeated. He slowly let go of her.
"Yes, I forgot"
And there's a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o' thine !
And we'll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.
He looked up at her and caught her composing herself and putting on a stern face. He heard a sound and saw Aaliyah leaving the room. He looked at her again and this time he noticed the lone tear that was hurriedly wiped off by her. He saw the hidden heartbroken Fuggy behind this new Pragya Arora.
"I knew it."
"Knew what?"
"That my Fuggy is still alive"
"Uh?"
"I know you don't want me to ever know the truth. But remember that you can never make me hate you. And if you ever need me I am still here."
Pragya's eyes filled with tears.
"Why?"
"For Auld Lang Syne"
