Before this episode, did Abhi not know that Pragya was "dead" to the world?

No Aashu! Pragya wrote a letter to Abhi and was in touch with her family, saying she will come back after TaBhi wedding because she can't convince herself to really see it or something like that. Why would he think she was dead to the world?
