I will tell you the actual reason:

Arre how will Abhi just dangle a ring in Tanu's hand? Without customary things?? How will it be a real engagement? And surely for the sake of Tanu a baby it's parents should have a ritualistic ceremony!!
She will stop them take the ring from Tanu and take it to the mandir and offer prayers to God and seek blessings for the to be engaged couple and their child and then do aarti to the ring and then bring it back for engagement!! Now that will be a ritually complete engagement for hubby dearest and Sautan dearest! Now they will dwell happily ever after!
