"She cannot be my daughter-in-law"
"Dadi, buy why?" Abhi looked at her with confusion. "She's beautiful, she's educated, she comes from a good background and she's a model dadi!"
"Are these the qualities you are looking for in a wife, Abhi? Beauty and status is not everything."
Tanu had grown bored of the conversation and zoned out ages ago. In reality, Tanu was not worried about what anyone thought of her especially Abhi's dadi. She always had something to complain about. Either Tanu wore dresses that were too short; she did not know how to speak to elders let alone other people, blah blah blah. Why should she change for anyone? Her parents had pampered her with love and had given her whatever she wanted simply by asking. She had no reason to change and she wouldn't. Others would have to simply deal with that.
"Abhi, darling I've got a shoot-ad tomorrow so I'm leaving." She kissed Abhi on the cheek much to dadi's dismay who shook her head at her retreating figure.
"And good riddance" Dadi had muttered.
"Aisi larki seh tu shaadi karega?" Dadi bellowed. "No respect, no manners, god knows where you have found her from. Pandit ji has shown me such lovely pictures. Come Abhi, come." Dadi dragged a reluctant Abhi to the seating area where he looked at the table full of pictures of young girls spread out unevenly. He watched as dadi grabbed picture by picture and placed it on his hand.
"Look at this girl. She looks lovely, sweet and simple. Rukhsar ki beti hai voh. Yes, very lovely Abhi beta"
"Dadi, she has Voldemort's nose."
"Voldomort's? Abhi. You shouldn't say that. How about this one? She looks so pretty and simple"
"Dadi, she's fat."
"Abhi, you are simply looking for excuses"
"Dadi, I already have a girl in mind: Tanu"
"Abhi. I have told you I don't like her. She is not the one for you"
"Dadi, Dadi this is not fair huh. I, I've got to go for recording now. Bye, see you. Love you dadi" he pecked her cheek before running off quickly eager to avoid dadi's disapproval. He already had so much to deal with, he had to sing, record and his CD signings were coming up and on top of it, dadi was pressurizing him to marry.
Marriage for god's sake. It is so overrated.
"Oh god, Oh god. Bulbul tu toh gayi. The new boss starts today and you just had to get late. Well done Bulbul. Well done." She scolded herself as she ran through the doors and took the elevator to her floor. She was a personal assistant to her former boss but now that she had left, Bulbul had been assigned to act as a personal assistant to this new boss, what was his name again? Ummm I think koi Mr Purab Khanna.
I don't know how he'll be'
Rachna rushed over to her as she approached her little desk. "Bulbul tu agai. Boss is waiting for you." Rachna was one of her friends at the office and the two had developed a good relationship over the couple of months Bulbul had started working in IB companies. Well, what it was formerly called, now it was PKI: Purab Khanna Industries.
"Okay go, go quickly silly!"
Bulbul timidly walked across and stood outside Purab's door before she exhaled and knocked on the door.
"Come in" a masculine yet gentle voice called.
Bulbul entered with her eyes downcast before she bit her lips slowly and looked up with a nervous smile. "Umm, Hii i'm Bulbul. Sorry I'm a little late. You must be Mr Purab Khanna, No I mean Khanna., No sorry Sir Purab, No wait sorry Khanna sir." Bulbul lightly hit her forehead before squinting her eyes and apologising. "Sorry, I, When I'm nervous, I talk a lot so..that's why."
Purab hid his smile while he watched Bulbul bite her lip out of nervousness. This was fun. He liked being in a position where he could make people feel nervous. Purab always believed in first impressions, first impressions along with a slight degree of intimidation was a perfect formula to try and get an idea of what an individual is like, and with Bulbul, he liked what he could see.
"Bulbul.. like a bird?"
"Sorry?" Bulbul looked at him in confusion. "Umm yeah, like a bird." She began to giggle slightly.
"What's so funny?" Purab asked, looking amused.
"No nothing. I thought and you, well you weren't what I thought you'd be"
"And how did you think I'd be?"
"Well I don't know. Do you not watch Indian drama's? They always show a khadoos boss and a quiet girl from the workplace and how they fall in love and marry and it's so dreamy. Just wow" she giggled before realising what she just said."Not that I'm looking for anything between us. What no, I mean I.. I.. I'm not quiet so." Bulbul spat, she was embarrassed and internally sighed. "But here the first words you have said are Bulbul, like a bird'" she smiled. "That's why it's just funny."
"Well Miss Bulbul, I'm glad I'm not what you expected. " He grinned. "Shall we get to work?"
Yes boss..
"Maa, I'm leaving, I'll see you in the afternoon"
"Pragya, come home quickly and do not bring too much work with you, my beti needs to have some family time too" Sarla smiled as she hugged her eldest child happily.
"Oh ho maa, I will try, but you know how much I love teaching, Mujhse raha hi nahi jata"
"My child" Sarla smiled fondly at Pragya.
"Okay maa, I'll leave now. I need to go to the mandir too quickly"
"Okay my child, you go"
May god always keep you happy
"Oooh" Pragya quckly catched the old lady in front of her before she fell onto the floor. Thank god she had arrived on time otherwise this fragile lady would have tripped on the carpet and would have fallen.
"Aap, aap, are you okay?" Pragya stared at the lady with concern. Surpriya Mehra just stared at her and grinned. "Yes beti, I am fine because of you. You saved me.. What is your name?"
"Umm me. I, Pragya Arora."
"Pragya Arora. Hmm, nice girl. Do you live far from here?"
"No, I just live in that colony nearby"
"Aah. That's good, don't mind me asking but are you married."
Pragya looked around awkwardly. "Umm no aunty, I'm not" she smiled slightly not wanting her awkwardness to come across completely.
"Ahhh beti you have just made my day, at this age, you have called me aunty" Supriya giggled.
"Sorry voh" Pragya smiled.
"You can call me dadi, beti. Can I call you beti?"
"Ofcourse aun-, dadi." Pragya grinned as she led the lady down the stairs of the mandir and towards the vehicle she had travelled in.
What a sweet girl, just right for my Abhi.
"Look, I don't pay you just like that. Give me some news already."
"Look ma'am, as your manager I'm requesting you, we need some news that can increase your popularity."
"Oh hello, I'm already popular"
"That's not what I mean Tanu ma'am, I mean someone has already informed the media about you and rock star Abhi which has increased your popularity to some extent. Just look at all the shoots you are being called for, but we need to heighten your image. This is the perfect time"
"Hmm, meaning. What can I do?"
"Tanu ma'am, with constant competition in the glamour world, you need to fight to maintain your position. We need some sensational news, I recommend associating yourself with rock star Abhi some more."
"I'm already with him, what more can I do?"
"Yes ma'am, and that has definitely helped your position till now, I recommend more pictures to share on social media sites which can make you the next it' couple and jus staying with him to encourage more publicity." Tanu though about what she was being told. Suddenly she thought about Abhi's insistence on marriage.
"What about marriage?"
"Marriage?"
"What about marriage for publicity? Me as Mrs Tanushree Abhishek Mehra?
Neil stared at Tanu bewildered before he let out a little smile. "That would be amazing ma'am, your career will go to great heights but are you? I mean is there any news? You must keep me updated."
"We're thinking about it, Neil, if it's going to help my career, why not?" Tanu smirked. "Maybe marriage is not such a bad idea Abhi, hmm.
"Tanu Abhishek Mehra, I love it."
