But then, he has invariably defended her in front of others.

When Bhabhi wanted to slap Pragya, he stopped her, telling her Pragya can't be responsible for Raj going to jail.

When the corporator or a lecher guy at the restaurant talked cheap of Pragya, he shut them down with beatings. Yeah, he himself tortured her with Suresh MMS stuff, but he was the one to prevent her from leaving his house many times, and he was the one to prove her innocent and defend her even if it took exposing his own baby sister's ill deeds in front of everyone.

And today, when Tannu's mother wondered how could he possibly live with a middle class girl, he even walked up to sit by her as if to make sure she doesn't miss a word he is saying.

And what did he say?

He said Pragya is well read, well mannered, understands and takes care of everyone... etc.. basically he projected how nice Pragya is! Not just that, he even said Pragya can handle him and that although he always gets mad at her, she doesn't get angry but understands.

He has been telling Tannu every now and then, how Pragya "gets" him while she doesn't, and how Pragya is happy with little things in life unlike Tannu.

And Abhi also knows Pragya never really loved any man and her knowledge of romance is books.

So, it's not like nothing crosses Abhi's brain. He knows Pragya so well.

Yet, he fights with her, never wants to tell her one nice word.

Why?

Is he afraid of losing himself to her and he is not supposed to do it because he is supposed to be in love with Tannu?

But he also knows Tannu is idiotic and even said it categorically in front of her parents today.

Is Abhi is caught commitments? Not the traditional/social rules but commitments that he defines for himself.

Like he has to keep Daadi happy, like since Tannu existed before Pragya and he had made promises to her, he can't let her go,... or like he can't hurt Pragya's folks...

But what does he really want to do with Pragya? That's a mystery only to be solved when situations arise.

So, Abhi often pretends to be oblivious to Pragya especially in front of her. But that's not the case. He knows but he does not want to react to her. Perhaps he worries it could be dangerous????

Great Post Tia. You have covered everything . Abhi now knows how real Pragya is . He knows her goodness only thing is he does not want to admit it in front of her may be he don't want to give her hopes as he believes he is committed to Tanu. Also may be he is in denial mode what his heart feels for her but deep inside he adores her the most.

Abhi is not pretending. Nor does he "know" in the true sense. He does not realise himself what he really knows. Abhi 's mind knows he has a gf whom he is committed to and wants to marry. Abhi's mind knows his marriage with pragya is for namesake and she is not his wife.

But he has a heart which he does not know how to read it. He has used it only for his dadi and sis and no other woman. This heart knows pragyas qualities and some connection that they share. When this heart rules his mind he does blurt out stuff to tanu or her parents. Same heart believed pragya was innocent and wanted to find out the truth.But he does not know why he says the stuff nor does he introspect and realise the deeper significance of his words abt pragya which he told tanu or her parents.

To me, Shabir has been/is brilliant- through the course of the last few months, he's been gently bringing out nuances in Abhi to discover Pragya and even better, discover Tanu.

His mannerisms reflect his surprise, the way he hides his smile as Abhi reacting to Pragya and how he has been with tanu and in general has been good progression with the exception of the fact that for the last month there were no TaBhi scenes as much and now we are inundated with them.

That aside, I suspect Abhi would have liked time to discover more of Pragya, who knows if he would have taken a decision to dump Tanu on his own but we will never know as it's out of his hands now. He will need to face the result of his choice to keep Tanu in his life post marriage.

Thats the best part about ABhi. After he kind of realized she is a nice girl, since then he does tell stupid silly things to her but he cannot listen anything bad about her from any third person be it even Aaliyah or Tanu.
