He loved silence. For a man who lived with music and noise in equal proportions, Abhishek valued and treasured silence the most. Calm, comforting and accepting silence. Just like his wife. Over the span of six months, there had been many moments when he felt thankful for her silence. Agreed, most of them were to cover his faults from others, but still. There was a unique relationship they shared when they were silent. If only he had continued that relation.
When he had overhead Pragya's monologue to his Dadi earlier, there was a strange guilt in his usually thick skinned heart. He wondered why she would apologize for the divorce when she was the one who demanded for it. Her selfless and albeit foolish demands during the filing of the papers intensified that guilt. There had always been rumours that Abhi was selfish. Thankfully they were true and he had decided to find a solid solution to his guilt. Even as he had been searching for a solution, he met the one person he didn't want to meet-Suresh. Luck must have been in a good temperament, as he finally got to hear and see the truth. Unlike Pragya, Suresh had been determined to win back his dignity and had sought out the CCTV company for a copy of a few days' footage. From Aliya and Mitali's theatrical planning to Tannu's theft, the footage showed one hell of a story. If only Pragya had shown him this instead of seeking a divorce.
As he stood in her Kumkum Bhagya hall with the revelations out in the open, thanks to Tannu's fear and Mitali's stupidity, he had eyes only for the bride. His wife stood in modest wedding finery, wearing tears of relief and pain her eyes. Her family stood shocked with anger and fatigue etched on their faces. His family, which didn't include Aliya or Mitali anymore, were simply grief stricken. He watched as defences were made and accusations were exchanged. He watched as Suresh explained his plan to Pragya. He watched as her confusion turned to disbelief and finally gratitude. He even seemed to watch himself, as though detached from the body, as he apologized to her family. They were waiting as he watched. Waiting for the only apology that should matter from him. If only he could find the words to ask for forgiveness from her. If only he felt deserving of forgiveness.
There was silence again in his life. She was back at his house and in his family, without demanding any explanations. They were civil to each other and he recognized the pity and concern in her eyes every time she looked at him. She was willing to get back to their silent relationship. If only the guilt goading voices in his head would stop. If only he could find the silence of peace again. If only.
Extremely random thought of how guilt could destroy a man. Wrote it while travelling to work, so excuse any mistakes please. Let me know if you would want to read the RaBul part as well! 😛
