IT LASTS A LIFETIME - PART 2
A slight waifish girl with pigtails, red cheeks and beautiful brown tear filled eyes stood in the middle and Aliyah's friends and some older boys walked round her in a circle teasing and her calling her names. Aliyah, fortunately, was standing to one side confused as to whether she should stop her friends or join them. Abhi was glad that Aliyah had enough sense to not bully her with her friends. He understood how it worked, they would tease her for the first few days and then become friends, but for some unknown reason that he chalked down to being a protective brother, he didn't like how they teased the poor girl. In that instance he'd become the protector and her the protected.
He told Aliyah's friends and the boys that they needed to stop. Before it got out of hand and fists were exchanged the teacher came and the crowd dispersed quickly. He walked up to the girl and asked if she was okay. Her cheeks went redder and she replied in a meek voice "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you!" He didn't realise anyone could blush that much. Purab told him that girl was new in school and in his class. Abhi hoped that she wouldn't get bullied anymore and was about to say something when the bell rang, creating chaos with everyone rushing back to class before they got punished for being late. Purab grabbed the girl's hand and dragged her behind him, waving bye to Abhi, who realised he never asked her name.
Pragya had to run to try and match Purab's steps as he pulled her towards their class. She knew he was in her class, hadn't she sat one desk behind him all morning and was glad that he was there or else she would have definitely been lost, but she couldn't help but look over her shoulder at the boy who had been brave enough to stop all the name calling and teasing. She didn't know his name but knew that whatever happened at school from now onwards would be better as one kind person had intervened when she was most vulnerable.
Once in class he made her sit next to him and introduced himself to her. Throughout the class they spoke to each other in whispers exchanging titbits about each other. Purab told her about how his parents had died in a car crash and that he lived with his chacha chachi. How he didn't have any siblings and always wanted a sister. Pragya in turn told him how her father was in the Army and had just recently been transferred back to Mumbai due to his health. How her mother had just set up a new business as a wedding organiser and how although she had a sister, she always wanted a brother.
As they spoke, Pragya realised how similar they were and while walking out for lunch, asked Purab if she could call him her brother. Purab was excited at the prospect of having a sister in his class and readily agreed. He told her that she should have lunch with him and his best friend, so that everyone in school would realise to leave her alone. It would also make it easier for her to make friends if she sat with them for the first few days as no one would dare say anything to her once they knew she would have them by her side.
Pragya sat furthest away from everyone under the tree. There was quite a few people having lunch there. It seemed to be a popular spot to have lunch although some people preferred the shade of the verandah where the lunch tables were arranged. She noticed the boy who had helped her during recess. He stared back at her which made her cheeks heat up. She quickly looked away as her mother had taught her not to stare. Abhi wondered why she had started blushing again and walked over to her.
"Hi. I'm Abhishek but my friends call me Abhi. You are?"
"Pragya"

unres!
mini me this is wonderful!! love the slowly unfolding connections. pragya-purab sibling bond is awesome and so much potential in it! interesting backstory for pragya's dad. and eee abhi!! everything abhi in this chapter was so on the right note! loved him thinking he never saw anyone blush so much. pragya is sweet and soft so far, but maybe abhi will bring out her temper...then again maybe not, since she's so grateful and he's so protective. nonetheless, lovely lovely! thanks for sharing and do keep following your imagination! 👏 😃
