the show's characters are quite confusing and mysterious!!

no one knows what will happen after what!! if we go by the book purab is supposed to be john maybe a ekta kapoor version of john and abhi is supposed to edward and suresh is colonel brandon

but this is how the characters from the book are...see how much can you relate

Edward Ferrars he is shy, kind, and retiring, preferring a quiet life to the distinction that his mother and sister wish for him. He and Elinor become attached early in the novel, since both are sensible and good-hearted. Edward develops a close relationship with Elinor while staying at Norland and ultimately marries her, after he is freed from a four-year secret engagement to Lucy Steele.

Colonel Brandon he is 35 and a former military officer who was stationed in India. His countenance is rather stern and grim, hiding his good heart; Elinor finds him good company, though Marianne considers him too dour and not nearly romantic enough to be suitable company.

John Willoughby

He's a real Casanova, and his charm works immediately on impressionable, romantic girls like Marianne. Even sensible Elinor is taken in by him for a while, which is really saying a lot. On the outside, he's everything Marianne dreams of - handsome, poetry-loving, musical, and supposedly rich. On the inside, though, he's riddled with problems, like debt, unfaithfulness, and general debauchery.

Suresh is brandon he has lots of similarities with brandon!!!

but purab an abhi is confusing 😕 abhi is not at all shy😆 and purab a casanova ?? i dont think so 🤔 and suresh also has some edward things as well 😕

I've read the book and he loses everything so that he get together with ellana, the only real connection this show has with the book is that they are 2 sisters and 1 is sensible than the other. Most of the characters are mixed up and in the book pragya and Suresh were not together at all, I find it disgusting that they will pair him with bulbul because she sees him as her jiju 🤢

Thanks for posting this. This should make it easy enough to distinguish the male characters.

The best way to compare the characters would be by the personalities of each rather than who is paired with whom as per the book. Eka has made sure to topple things up 😛

No Purab must be Mr. Willoughby.
Abhi's character is not like Edward Ferras in terms of his traits. But his story is pretty much the same. Edward is engaged to a girl before he marries Elinor (Pragya's character). Here Abhi is kind of engaged to his GF. Abhi and Pragya are different but yet very similar people- the ones who take resposibilities. See how Pragya and Abhi both care for their families. Abhi dotes and Daadi and his sister and Pragya takes care her mom and sis.

It's not Edward who cheats. It's John Willoughby who goes for some rich woman leaving Marianne. Heartbroken Marianne then finds companionship in Brandon.

Also, there is a scene in the novel where Willoughby (Purab) goes to Elinor (Pragya) and says he genuinely loved Marianne (Bulbul) and wanted to marry her. Which is what we saw in yesterday's precap.

They are not following the novel A to Z obviously. There is no relationship between Elinor and Brandon (but here they show Pragya and Suresh as fiance/es). I would doubt if the creatives have read the whole novel. They must have seen the movie and just picked some traits from that and put their regular scenes together!

They have split Willoughby between Akash and Purab so far. May be they don't want to make Purab bad... so that they might get him back with Bulbul later.

Ekta said that she had changed the script so many times that SnS was left far behind.

I think she has retained some characters like Brandon and changed some completely like Edward as she wanted for the story.

So the book can't be taken as a base for the future story. She has incorporated some elements and left out some.

Thanks to all who commented.
To those who say Purab is not Edward but rather Abhi is Edward and Purab is Willoughby, I can only repeat what others have already said in this thread. Ekta herself said the script went through changes and changes and it's only loosely based on the book.
If Abhi's storyline has similarities to Edward's then so does Purab's, just as both Abhi and Purab have some similarity with Willoughby.

My reason for making this topic wasn't necessarily to insist Purab is the Edward Ferrars character, but to point out how, in my opinion, it's pretty pointless to insist Abhi is Edward and Purab Willoughby. The show is really not any adaptation of the book, it's just that the book gave them ideas for characters, characteristics and storylines. But those characters, characteristics and storylines do not transfer or follow the same way as the novel, nor does it transfer onto specific "counterparts"

Here they have split Willoughby into two characters: his personality & love for money is that of Abhi's while his loving & dumping females is that of Aakash's.

yeah sorry i forgot his name, Edward is Abhi

the only reason they say Abhi is Edward and Purab is Willoughby is their pairing with the sisters, but here Purab is more gud natured than Abhi, whereas in novel it is reverse
