Anju Mahendroo is busy with her acting commitments. But she has another task on hand. Along with residents from JVPD Scheme, Anju is planning on a morcha to highlight their plight during the rains. "Every year we face a lot of problems with water, sometimes almost eight feet, entering our homes. Life comes to a standstill," she says. "We have complained to the authorities. There is an illegal structure that needs to be removed." On the work front, after playing negative characters for a long time in serials, Anju is these days seen doing positive roles. But it isn't a conscious decision, she says. "It's just that I have been offered these roles." But yes, she'd love to do a meaty role. "It doesn't matter if it's positive or negative." With so many people venturing into production, has that thought struck her ever? "I'm too lazy for that! And besides if I had to, I should have done it a long time ago," she says. An animal lover, Anju has eight to nine stray dogs at home and she loves spending time with them. Cricket is also a passion and at the moment she does try to catch as many IPL matches as possible. "I was hoping Mumbai Indians would make it to the semi finals. Now a lot rests on the permutations and combinations." And the team that she thinks will eventually win is Rajasthan Royals. Even today, when people talk or write about cricket and Bollywood's romance, Anju's name always comes up (her friendship with Gary Sobers was the talk of the town a few decades ago). Ask her about this and she just smiles saying, "Well, there's a reason for it I guess." Roshni K Olivera | ||
