The explosion in TV programming and channels has led to a surge in demand for on-screen talent. This has resulted in opportunities being created for new faces who have overnight gone on to become stars with huge fan followings both in India and other countries where their TV shows are viewed. The talent has emerged from all over India – villages, small cities, large towns and metropolitan cities.

Young girls and boys have leapt onto the TV acting bandwagon, in some cases outstripping some of the more established TV actors in the popularity sweepstakes.

Indiantelevision.com, which pioneered The Indian Telly Awards, hence decided to institute The New Talent Awards, which will recognize those newcomers who have risen above the rest of their peers.

The New Talent Awards, with 16 categories in year one, is a salutation to the depth of creative and onscreen talent that India has. Those who will be felicitated include: Best New Actor (male and female), Best New supporting actor (Male and female), and Best New Onscreen couple (male and female).

The New Talent Awards 2008 in year will cover the period January 2007 to 31 March 2008, a 15 month period and will recognize new talent for this period.
