No..Pali and Sanskrit are two different langages..but they cause a lot of confusion while learning.Sanskrit andSinhala have a lot of similar and loan words...maybe thats why you find it easy to understand Hindi...you know ...when I used to watch TV Lanka...coz I was bored ( several years ago) I used to pick out similar words...Sinhala belongs to Indo aryan branch of languages...though it has a few Tamil words in it, it is not a Dravidian language like Tamil and other South Indian languages...I was surprised initially considering that it was geographically closer to South India than North India...So..in short your observation about Sinhala and Sanskrit is correct...and I prpbably will never be able to learn Sinhala beyond the 30-40 words I know😆
