At long last KTLK CVs have addressed the 'log' aspect of Kuch toh Log Kahenge. For the first time CVs have been smart enough to understand the potential of a track where they can capitalize on the gossip arising due to the ignorance of new characters, 'log', towards the Ashni relationship. The light, fun handling of this basic theme is a surprisingly hilarious way to explore an age-gap relationship with both partners are working in the same place, garnering a lot of laughter, yet raising and hopefully answering some valid questions.
This week saw the entry of two new characters or 'log' and the start of the 'misunderstood' EMA track. The two characters, DD and Aditi are as similar as chalk and cheese, and the exploration of Ashni relationship in their midst has become an interesting and diverse challenge for the two protagonists. On one hand we were introduced to Aditi, a 20+ new graduate who is easy going and possesses an open mind. We saw the ease with which Nidhi was able to confess her married status, and also proceeded to discuss her marriage and enlist Aditi's help in her schemes. On the other there is DD, a 60+ senior doctor, who is as strict as they come, has staunch beliefs of societal right and wrong and is very rigid in his stance. His refusal to accept varied POVs and move along with the times has made him appear to be stuck in the 1970s, and the icing on the cake is he also happens to be Ashu's mentor and guide. So, we saw how Ashu has hesitated to reveal details of his personal life to him, especially those connected to his marriage.
From here on it seems as if we will be treated to some forced gossip generated mostly by Nidhi herself for DDs benefit and hope after a few delightful twists and turns things will get cleared up. DD has already started opposing to what he thinks is a shameful act by Ashni. In all his self-righteousness he has failed to ask the basic question to Ashu: how are Ashni related? So he has created his own picture in his mind and one of the main culprits for his perception is the Ashni age-gap.
Now a quick look down KTLKs history to briefly at the other 'log' situations and how till now CVs failed to utilize this aspect.
1. Dr. Mallika : Unforgettable, she was part of the evil trio who thwarted Ashni at every step in their earliest days of dating. This was a time CVs should have focused on not just her, but the other interns as well, the 'log' who were Nidhi's batch-mates. They could have shown them teasing Nidhi about her efforts to attract Ashu and at the same time gossip behind her back about the age gap situation.
They had one more situation where gossip at KGH could have taken center stage and that was the time Ashu fell into the Gomati, the shok sabha, Mallika's tantrums against Nidhi during Ashu's hospitalization. But alas, the extent of the 'log' was the evil trio, a wasted opportunity by the CVs.
2. DB: When she came to know she was completely against it. And this was also the time they showed Mandira. What the CVs should have shown is some friend or relative's of DB, the 'log', maybe in the temple, asking DB about Mandira's return and basically reminding her about the scandal around her marriage. Nidhi should have been witness to this and against this backdrop the Ashni relationship should have emerged in front of DB. But alas, the extent of 'log' here was DB and CV, another wasted opportunity by the CVs.
3. Ranga's relatvies: Very brief, but quite well show-cased. The speculation of some village relatives, the 'log' to the Ashni age gap and their failure to understand the urban mentality was depicted quite well. This was when we witnessed a complete turn around by DB in her staunch support of Ashu. So, yes, one opportunity that was utilized quite well, its just that the track , that is Ranji's wedding, was too short for 'log' and gossip to play a big role.
4. Amar-Ahana: Again completely mishandled. The timing of these two introductions happened when Ashni were separated. During separation, CVs introduced Amar and Ahana, the 'log' and showed Ashu's possessiveness, and Nidhi's jealousy, but other than their incessant bickering there were no attempts to salvage their marriage, no positive response by Ashni. Finally we witnessed a kidnapping and a hurried patch-up. Yes, some amount of misconceptions were created but alas, this track was not utilized to its full potential, and the wind-up was abrupt.
So, hoping that this time the 'log' aspect, that is DD and the EMA track that has started off extremely well will be continued to be handled with the same amount of intelligence and sensitivity till the end.
