To me, the single greatest loss of this show has been Ashutosh! The man is simply lost in the mess that the show is today. The distinguished surgeon, the Dr Heartstone whose life was transformed by his butterfly like intern, the suave and charming man who swept a girl eighteen years his junior straight off her feet, the good friend who yet knew the boundaries of his friendship - where is that man today and what has he been reduced to?
I was just watching Epi 92. The sophistication with which he explains his helplessness to Nidhi and yet reassures her of her place in his life, the ease with which he handles Mallika and subtly reminds her of her boundaries - I can't believe the same writer, who actually wrote that episode, is penning the current track too. Because the issues are the same. It is Mallika and her obsession all over again. Even then Mallika was recovering from a suicide attempt. So, why is Ashutosh today so blind to her machinations? Her so-called lunatic status is a very lame excuse.
For me, what also worked was this sophisticated man's willingness to do silly things for his beloved - whether it was getting wet in the rain, running around looking for adrak wali chai, riding a godi to the wedding, climbing a tree to pluck a flower for her and so on.
Is there anyway we can launch a redeem Ashutosh campaign along with a redeem the show campaign...actually the two are interlinked but I am focusing on Ashutosh because I believe he is the greatest casualty of this track!
