Ishwari just gave 2 of her children major PTSD, because of which they never learnt how to handle their emotions. That’s exactly why Dev has temper issues and so does Neha. It’s sad, but a harsh reality within the (brown/immigrant) community. Parents inflict and project their own sacrifices on to their children because of which they develop imposter syndrome, PTSD and unhealthy pressure to perform. I loved how this show portrayed the same. Ishwari kept on reminding Dev how much she sacrificed and what his responsibilities are towards their family till the extent that she actually made him feel guilty for falling in love and he had to choose between his own family (Sona) and theirs (Neha, Nikki, Riya, Ish, Mamaji etc etc)

🤔🤔🤔

S -3 Even Sona & Dev became side flicks after mighty psycho’s entry

I feel it was entire season 3 was a disaster compared to S1

.....

S1 still look so “ beautiful , brilliant and best above the rest of the Seasons “

I completely agree with this post. Ishwari, due to her own circumstances, imparted a lot of personality issues to her two eldest children. The amount of guilt on Dev due to Ishwari and Neha was just plain sad to see.

I know right and while I agree with Dev being wrong in many of the things that happened, the poor guy just didn’t know how to handle his emotions. All he knew was business and money. He didn’t know a thing about emotions and love being all that was fed to him was insecurity, possessiveness and guilt. He’s just scarred and blinded.

When I first saw this show, I was really angry with Dev. But now I’ve studied psychology, this is normal behavior for someone with major PTSD and I just feel sad for him.

Not only PTSD , he also had early childhood trauma that is horrible and sad situation where the child grow up not knowing to deal with emotions .

Ishwary too had a very peculiar character of shifting her guilt to others

Dev was always the victim , she used Neha as tool but blame was on Dev ( telling it is for him)

Exactly! That’s exactly why Dev always put Neha first. He would overcompensate her with materialistic stuff because he hoped Neha would forgive him for her lost childhood (which wasn’t on him to do so, but Ish made him believe that it was).

He never knew emotions and didn't know how to handle what he felt... The trauma of losing a parent, added to that is the mountain of guilt by the other parent, no wonder he was scarred. He didn't realize he was in love for so long, even though I think he fell in love with Sonakshi a long time before he actually realized it.

It's just sad, the way he had been molded.

I agree here. She didn't outrightly blame him for anything, but constantly telling that everything I did was for you, is basically saying, if I wasn't a good mother to Neha, it was because of you, I was too busy taking care of you.

No wonder Dev over-compensated for Neha all the time.

Dev's state of mind right before he realizes he's in love with Sonakshi is such a treat to watch. That episode right before his engagement where he overhears that she isn't well, and goes to her house to check on her only to find her gardening.

Easily a favourite.
