The father of a daughter is nothing but a high-class hostage. A father turns a stony face to his sons, berates them, shakes his antlers, paws the ground, snorts, runs them off into the underbrush, but when his daughter puts her arm over his shoulder and says, ‘Daddy, I need to ask you something,’ he is a pat of butter in a hot frying pan.”

Garrison Keillor

This quote reminded me off Bijoy

This piece is for my fried Hari and maybe to all daughters who idolize their fathers including me and for all daughters whose first hero is their father and their protector too…

Bijoy Bose to the world he may seem like a cantankerous man but to his sona he was her protector. The heartwarming portrayal of Bijoy as the father and Sona as his darling daughter caught my heartstrings.

From the beginning of the show Bijoy has been shown to be a father who is proud of his strong independent daughter Sona, yes because of this he sometimes found fault with his son which did not sit well with me but he did not shy away from showing that Sona was his pride…here I am only talking about his and Sona’s relationship.

Bijoy who knew his daughter was in love and so accepted Dev even though he had misgivings mainly probably because he knew Dev’s dependence on his mother or more so hers to him. Here, they did portray a beautiful balanced relationship between him ,his mother and his wife asha so he had that as yardstick . He was a fierce father who went and confronted Easwari when he knew that Easwari was doubting his sona ‘s love for Dev or implying that Sona was after Dev’s money.

He was shattered when his Sona was heartbroken after the break up and told her to be strong because she was a fighter , he wanted his daughter to have a good life and so tried to encourage her to marry Ritik..yes it was a rebound but for a father he just wanted to see his child happy.

As a father he could not bear to see his child shed a tear or see her unhappy…don’t all fathers have the same emotions?. He knew she will get hurt again if she got back with Dev because of Easwari but he still agreed because that made his Sona happy.

That is the kind of fierce selfless love a father has for his child in this case his daughter and that was Bijoy.

So, from sona to her dad…

When my father didn’t have my hand… he had my back.”

Linda Poindexter

P.s this is not about Bijoy’s temper, not about Easwari ,not about Dev just a fathers fierce love for his daughter…

Bijoy's fierce love for Sona is something I very much relate to. These father's they aren't just protectors they make sure their girls can protect their own independent selves.
