TIA!! excellent post.
Shaheer Sheikh is such a brilliant performer. All the praise to him for the awe-inspiring and gut-punching act he put forth today. I don't think the character of Dev could've even survived were it not for Shaheer's portrayal of him. He almost made me want to hug Dev. *almost*
While the episode was a heart-warming moment of exploration for a father and indeed made you feel for an estranged father-daughter duo I just can't help but realize that it was also a neat, tight slap at the faces of all those women who'd gone through the issue of infertility and come out alive but scarred. While there's joy to be held in the naked, unadulterated celebration and realization of a father's dream, there's also sorrow and a tragic bitterness to be held at the agony all those women who cannot or fail to conceive. I don't think any woman who has faced the same can watch such an episode and not feel the acute sting of judgement. I can't bring myself to wonder the kind of hurt and damage such entertainment-churnout can cause to all those women who have yearned for validation only to be scorned.
I guess I would've tried to avoid thinking on such a tangent had the show not force-fed, repetitively, that they're portraying real life situtations. Mainly every point in the Dixit Clan defense highlights, notoriously, that this show is about 'real flawed human beings' and doesn't conform to fictional idealism. Yet you take the most sensitive subject--conception and a woman's status in society if she cannot conceive--and make a mockery out of it, too.
I guess I was somewhere hoping that Dev thinks Suhana is Sonakshi's adopted daughter and still goes on to love her as if he'd love his own kin. Too much to ask from desi tv.π
It doesn't take away from the beautiful portrayal of human emotions in today's episode and your heart does go out to Dev the father. But the joy is also marred by the insensitive baggage the topic carries.
I think we all agree that Dev needs to grovel way too hard to even consider ever getting sonakshi back (if ever) and i don't think he will because the show's producers love retweeting 'omg deewana dev is back, poor dev' etc tweets so idek if they themselves think he needs redemption but there's one scene i BADLY want to see now.
I want a Bijoy-Dev confrontation. I want Bijoy to say now you too have a daughter you love so immensely and cannot see hurt. Tell me now if a man comes in her life, only gives her pain, leaves her stranded for his mother, breaks her dreams, shatters her and makes her his second priority, what will you do as a father? Will you let him have your daughter? Will you tell him he's right?
Now Dev's not just a father. He's the father of a brilliant daughter. How life has come full-circle. If only we get the right conflicts and resolutions now.
