Awesome analysis. Thanks Sabita and shaavi.
In childhood I had read about an experiment where lion cubs were imprisoned since childhood. First they were kept in iron cages. They made a lot of effort to get out but ultimately failed. Then they were deliberately kept in plastic or bamboo cages so weak, they could have broken them in one push. But the lions didn't even make an effort. They were the prisoners of the mentality that they can't break free of these cages.Another case is if a goat kid which is brought up in the same cage as a lion. He is not allowed to be eaten as the lion is tied but the will to live is sucked out of the goat kid.Same way Ishwari too sucked out the life from Dev by psychologically raping him. I don't have any other word for what she did. She sucked out his free will, his desire to live, to enjoy, to be himself.Whenever after marriage, he tried to be himself, she again started her psychological torture, as she knew it would activate Dev's gut reactions. And such habits are not easy to break. Dev's entire psyche was trained to follow Ishwari, to look upon her as Goddess, to rever her.Much like those women in the satsangs who happily chant this verse of ramcharitmanas by tulsidas - 'Dhor ganwar shudra pashu naari, yeh sab tadan ke adhikari'So trained to chant, that we forget we are abusing ourselves. It takes a major event to come out of such psychological training. In Dev's case it was loosing Sona. That is why I am sympathising with him now a days. Because he has at last managed to come out of Ishwari's control and has realised what he has lostI will start loving and respecting him the day he understands and acknowledges his role in his breakup.
