At a certain point, KRPKAB has to reveal whether or not Dev remembers all the hurtful things he uttered to Sonakshi (that he regrets falling in love with someone like Sona and marrying her, calling her a gold digger who married him for money, so that he can help her brother, asking her to get out of his house) and I sincerely hope, it will not be in the show's penultimate or final episode. Because post-leap we are shown that Dev remembers only the hurtful things Sona said to him while Sona remembers all of it (his hurtful words she recalls during awards ceremony and she repeats the hurtful words she said the night they broke up to Shruti all over again, meaning she remembers the whole picture unlike Dev). Therefore, like always, Dev perspective is still skewed.
If Dev blaming Ishwari for the failure of his marraige came as a relief, Dev blaming Sonakshi for the same came as no grand surprise. And part of that problem has always been the way Dev's character is written. His blind faith for his mother was to such a profound extent that he fails to see where he was going wrong in the whole matter. I understand Dev's hurt on being abandoned by Sona but despite such a major trauma, he still fails to see his role in the failure of his marraige. He blames Ishwari for not standing by him and rightfully so but Dev doesn't see where he went wrong. By failing to do so, the show's biggest problem comes to the fore.
If KRPKAB crackles due to the chemistry between the leads, it frustrates due to holes in script that ruins the construction of the characters (but conveniently (illogically) serves what the makers are trying to portray). For instance, why would Dev gift RR diamonds when his relationship with her in no better than what it was? Why would he make Vicky, whom he clearly distrusts a 49% partner and CEO (Oh please lord, save me lord. Why would someone do this if not to make it possible for Sona to work out of the same building)? Elena claiming that she loves Bose family more after many many years even though she never showed that family any loyalty until now? And most importantly, why would Dev conclude that Sona wanted him to choose between her and his mother? That dialogue made little sense when nothing of that sort ever happened. In the meantime, the relationship dynamics between various characters are not interwoven into the plot. For example, mamaji has never spoken to Ishwari as to why she had withdrawn from family affairs for seven long years and now, all of a sudden he is pushy because he is worried about his sister's mental health?
Instead, the focus will shift to new problems (Soha) without resolving the existing issues. And the focus will again move onto Ishwari's issues with Sonakshi and how the young girl ruined her son and family, thus adding to the turmoil that is least engaging and most frustrating. The same tale of Ishwari blaming Sonakshi drags down the post leap plot as a whole, while Dev feigns indifferentce towards Sona and mocks her start up company.
I always loved Dev despite his flawed and blind outlook towards his mother. Admittedly I didn't understand or sympathize with his character in several post-marriage tracks but his pure heart was always his saving grace. When the writing team let Dev down, Shaheer's performance saved Dev. However, Dev's problems, which he refused to face earlier by not seeing his mother for what she was have compounded further; he refuses to reflect on the events of that breakup night in a wholesome manner, does not look inward to see where he as the husband and son went wrong and thus contributed to the failure of his marraige. Clearly, this short coming has not allowed him to grow in a meaningful way. Will Sonakshi be instrumental to his growth once again remains to be seen? or will it be Soha? or both? (Unless the CVs end up showing Dev is indeed the investor behind Sona's business and spoke those hurtful words on the night of breakup so that she can walk away from him without regrets, Dev still needs to grow up).
In the end, despite all his anger, feigned indifference, Dev's compliment to Sona on her beauty and his unconscious blink spoke in no uncertain terms on where his heart lies. The most revealing confrontation however, happens with his family. He has finally understood them for what they are. Dev was hurt about losing his office space not because of its monetary value or it was a tribute to his mother but because it was the testament to his early success. Yes, Dev Dixit has grown on that front but by mocking Sona's business, he once again shows he has a long way to go coz how could he forget that he business was a start up once upon a time too? I guess its his anger towards Sonakshi that spoke in that moment while his dormant love for her does not allow him to vacate his office space and move far far away. How can he, home is where the heart is. Now that office will be his true home.
While Dev tries to live one day at a time, Ishwari lives in her little bubble where she loves blaming Sonakshi for all her troubles. God save her coz no redemption can save her in my eyes (rolling my eyes). And Sonakshi Bose...I am proud of my girl. She turned her life around by staying true to herself. She is a wonderful mother, independent daughter and a successful business woman. You go girl!
The episodes pre-leap put into sharp relief the show's inconsistent writing which failed to make it a great drama and it wasn't romantic enough to be a full blown love story. By failing to submit to either style, KRPKAB got trapped in the middle zone which worked erratically while failing the rest of the time by falling into saas-bahu genre. Post leap, once the novelty of new looks wears off, the show can only improve if the writers can accomplish what they failed to do earlier... by staying consistent..be it with Dev and Sona's characterization or story telling style.Show us that Dev and Sona are each other's home in the true blue KRPKAB style; make it irresistible once again by keeping it Devakshi centric.I for one loved the haunting quality of the dialogue by Dev to Sona ..."Gusse mein aaj bhi khoobsurat lagti ho tum." And the look he gives Ishwari after the scene with Vicky, telling her in not so many words that whatever happened that day is due to her and her expectations that he fulfill his duties towards his family and Ishwari loweingr her eyes in guilt...mind blowing! Now, that is the KRPKAB I fell in love with.
