Why does the IN always butt into a Finite story??

I am not an Indian TV show buff. The main reason being that I lack the patience to watch one story unfold for years on end. I think 150 episodes is my limit. So to save my time, not to mention my sanity, I stick to crime shows in FX Crime and AXN. 😆

I was lured thrice into Indian TV shows. The first two had been very unique love stories. Third one was this one.

Each of these shows had an extremely promising start. They had everything. Off-the-beat storylines, wonderful actors, gripping dialogues and script...you name it, they had it. Yet they ended up disappointing not just me but a lot of audience. Why? When they have a good story, why don't they stick to it? Why do they get this urge to drag until they start butchering their own characters? Good, interesting tracks were opened and left hanging and incomplete without rhyme or reason. Logic gets dumped right along with our hopes. Love loses its value and the characters lose their respect.

Take this very story. They could have handled all the tracks, even the sensitive ones like infertility and given them all a proper closure. End the story of this DevAkshi on a lovely note. Then take up season 2 where the actors are the same, names are the same, hell, we will be OK with even the bloody settings being the same. Same promo of a playboy Dev and a single mom Sonakshi. Only the two stories are not connected with this stupid leap. I am sure we would have all been truly excited.

I have absolutely no clue to the workings of Indian Television. I have no idea why the makers can't respect their own story and its characters. Execute it like they had initially envisioned, address the issues, close them and end the story on a beautiful note. If not 150, then 200 or 250. Like a season. Then come up with another story - maybe have the same cast and same title even, if they want to. Wouldn't that be a better thing to do than frog-leap through so many things before abandoning them all abruptly? Why this urge to see if the FINITE story can be turned into an INFINITE one? Are the TRPs the only reason?

Agree with you completely here... To be honest, even I don't have any problem with the leap.. But what I didn't want to see is the abrupt ending of all the tracks.. Probably a few of them could he completed and then the leap could have been brought in..Some of the most anticipated tracks were still pending in the show.

Could not agree more, suvika.
Indian shows focus on quantity than quality. Unfortunately even finite shows too lose steam after 70 odd episodes. I have seen it consistently.

This show had the potential for so much... they brought in a first break up track, a third angle, a rushed marriage, relatives popping in from nowhere, interference galore from all and sundry, the main leads becoming dumb and dumber, a prenup, an inhospitable uterus, misunderstandings galore, and drove their own show to the ground!

One thing I hope for now is a good, crisp show that comes regularly in seasons, just for about 4 to 5 months in a year and of course, hoping that Shaheer and Erica in it. I adore them no end.

Couldn't agree more. The writers, makers and the channel themselves do not respect the characters. You have to be in love with the characters you create rather than milk them dry for TRP. I know TRP is important but if it's at the expense of the story then the whole effort is lost. Changing the story line with a leap is a sign of a bad writer who doesn't know what to do with the characters just bumps the original storyline and purpose.

But why leave at all?? 😕 It is their story. Don't they get attached to it? Don't they want to see it through the amazing journey...make sure it reaches the desired destination? 😕

Yeah. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and puts me off big time. I don't feel like investing any more of my time and energy thinking about the story line or defending the characters when there is this thought running at the back of my mind that it's going to go haywire because of some whims and fancies of CVs.

Yeah. I do agree that in reality, problems don't pop up one after the other like in a queue. Problem two waits for problem one to get resolved before it enters the picture kind of a thing. But this was way too much. The pace was fast and they were all being dumped right on top of one another. Forget the leads, we had begun to lose our minds.

I do not like it when writers stop respecting their story and characters and start playing around with them, for whatever reason.

Oh I would love that too sir. As Martin Luther King Jr said - We must accept the finite disappointment and not lose the infinite hope. 😃

Sad part is the story did have a lot of potential and scope without resorting to the leap.

Its all money that matters! Makers started with a fresh concept and a finite story. They casted two beautiful people as lead.

They themselves were not sure how much all this will work. I think to their surprise also show became a superhit and Shaheer and Erica became the most desired pair on television, they actually became a craze for eveveryone.

With current track the show would have lasted for another 60-70 episodes, makers don want loose such a milking cow that early and easily. They want to make most out of their chemistry and hence the leap even if it is at the expense of characters and story.

I had read it on instagram, that indonesian dubbed series of KRPKAB is not being able to telecast in Indonesia because some money issues and also they cannot telecast it till atleast 300-350 episodes of the series have been telecasted in India as they telecast one episode for 90mins. Sony will never want to loose the money, even the channel would have told the PH to extend the series.

Its v the audience whi gets attached to characters, for everyone else its a project and money is most important.
