What if's and the Should Have's

I know this is a funny title. This show has been a roller coaster ride for me and I can speak for a few of my friends here. It has given me great joy ( at least in the beginning and the confession scene one of my favorites) and deep lows. It has stirred my sarcastic streak to the peak and of course gave me the opportunity to find amazing friends and thinkers.
As I see it in Life we sometimes are stuck in What If's ? and the Should Have's. I.E What If I had scored a little more on my tests, what if I had chosen that dress..etc and the Should Have's example I should have taken that offer, should have said no etc and in essence if we get stuck on both we really get stuck in a rut . But if we come to terms with the what if's see it with a different perspective and temper our should have's we make peace .

So in this story
What if we misjudged the context of this show based on the promo that it was a happy one but in essence it was to show a hard hitting reality of Men like Dev existing in real life and girls like Sona believing in fairy tales that just need to wake up to reality.
As I see it (me included) the conflict is arising because some of us are so caught up in the should have's like Sona should have been strong, Dev should have stood up for Sona etc and maybe are misinterpreting the premise of the show..the What If.. Not sure yet of the what if of the show but decided to accept this as a what if for my sanity😉

To quote Bart

Right now I am stuck somewhere between what if, what might, what could have, and what never will and all I want to know is what actually is

So I for one am trying to make peace with myself albeit not successfully that the bottom line is this is a fiction show a dramatic one that I got attached to at a personal level and really does not have much relevance to my real life and maybe stop believing too strongly in the should have and the what if's of the show one episode at a time 😉

The reason I started the show because through the promo I got the sense that this is the story of two people who because of family being against their love, mutually make decision to separate, yet committed to each other in every sense of the word.
Commitment is not just marriage license or engagement ring. Commitment is when whether anything legal or social ties you to that person or not, in your heart, you only belong to them.

But while Sonakshi belonged to Dev heart and soul, Dev was never Sonakshi's in any sense of the word except physically.

He could not be her best friend. Because a best friend stands by his friend in need.

He could not be her lover because he never fought for his love.

He could not be her husband because he could not protect her honour and dignity.

The only thing he could be is a minion to his mother to carry out her wishes mindlessly.

In short, utterly unworthy of something as precious as love.

Actually on a very serious note... we all got attached to the show for various reason.. we have all witnessed high and lows together and the only way we can watch this show if people are even watching... is to keep aside the thing we call sanity!!! We have to stop screaming at the idiot box... stop tweeting to the black hole only then can we watch the show!! Or else it is just torturing your mental well being!!

Well, you do have a point. Probably, we may have misinterpreted the context.. But the confusing thing here is that even actors have voiced out (directly or indirectly) that they were not satisfied with the way their character was being portrayed.
So, this may cast a doubt that probably viewers weren't wrong. Maybe, the story got changed.. We never know..

we have got attached to the show for different reasons.. and each reason has its own substance.

i also think that somewhere along the line the show got bigger than itself and that is when the problems starting occuring. People got more affectionate and attached to the show. And we all know what that means. People demanded more and the makers were under pressure to delivery. I would not be surprised if i was told that the length of the show has been increased too.

in such a situation, there are bound to be many ifs and buts.. most of it very uppredictable. it is difficult for the makers, the actors and the audience too. this is what is happening now..

i think, we the audience, must tone down, and look on this show as what it is.. just a show and nothing that bears resemblance to any kind of reality. if we find it good, if we don't it is okay.. treat it as entertainment.

on my part, ever since the shaadi, i have stopped looking at realism in the show.. it is all about wanting to see my favorite actors, nothing more.

Tia me an you both got carried away because of the Promo and that is why I think we have such strong opinions..But the way I am trying to view it today after a good nights sleep is that the makers want to make moolah, whatever they show is being lapped up be some section of audience and even though we scream about social responsibility in portrayal I dont see it...so why not just aimlessly watch or not after all the TV Remote is in our hands that is all I was trying to say here..I am struggling with what I am preaching too😉

Sabita, except for some tiny-miny incidents which were actually in the show to show Dev's big heart, where was the social responsibility ever in this show?

  • Neha's groom was offered 30% share. I have honestly never seen anyone give that high a dowry. (Mind you I have always held the opinion that this company actually belongs 20% each to Dev, Ishwari and his sisters but that has never been shown in this show. They always refer to it as Dev's money that he needs to keep for his mother and sisters).
  • Dr Bose's professional integrity was compromised and she was at lack of employment
  • Then she was used as a wall against potential girl friends. Used as a dance partner without 'consent'
  • This kind of stuff goes on. Dr bose doesnt have any proper place of work in Ishwari Niwas. She is asked to take a glass of juice to a young man's room
  • The said young man is seen shirtless in his unlocked room and courtyard when he has 3 young sisters and a young unmarried nutritionist in the house
  • No action taken against Khatri except a warning
  • Dr Bose's profile is uploaded on a matrimony site
  • Vicky's behaviour with the lady constable
and on and on... We still fell in love with that said young man.. why I wonder?

I dont think this show tries to be idealistic at all.. its realistic (sadly) ...

All I can say about this show is keep no expectations because I think the makers are smoking something and are on a mission of Drama overload .. reminds me of a speeding train which has no brakes just aimlessly travelling till it reaches a grinding halt pun intended

You are absolutely rt ...got attached to this one ...par mein ab kya karum...I really dont know how to detach myself from this serial ...I think they have the plan to stretch this serial for another 100 or 200 episodes...I dont see any changes in Dev's character on the path of redemption...
Honestly very sad reading the TOI spoilers...just wondering how could he kick her out of his house...and how could someone give so much pain to someone you profess to love and care...😭
