Okay loved the last two episodes. Interesting stuff overall. First things first, am I the only one or Vicky and Elena bring strong reminders of the Lydia-Wickham arc from Pride and Prejudice? Granted that unlike Darcy, Dev did not have to force Vicky's hand and get him married to Elena but the similarities are extremely amusing. And just like Lydia and Wickham, I can see just how well this marriage is going to work out. Serves them right I say. 😆
It was good to see Dev and Sona work as one unit when Elena went missing BTW. Ishwari being sensible throughout was also a welcome relief from Radha Rani and Bijoy's histrionics. I liked how Radha Rani was mostly subdued in the face of Sona's apology too. Yes I derive a certain amount of pleasure from that character quieting down a bit. 😆
On a different note I was extremely amused by how similarly Dev and Sona reacted to the situation initially. Both wanted to slap some sense into their cousins as a start with the question of building a career before marriage following suit... Ahh these two! Always the sensible and practical pair. It was extremely telling of the fact that inspite of the superficial differences they appear to have, their fundamental belief system is exactly the same which is ultimately why these two understand each other so well. Inspite of Sonakshi's grievances over the unceremonious manner in which Dev broke up with her, she had ultimately understood his decision. "Dev ne jo kiya woh ghalat tha, lekin jis reason ki wajah se kiya woh tou samjha jasakta haina?" This coupled with the reminder Asha gave Sonakshi that even if Dev had gone against his Mother's wishes would she have married him? This is what sets Dev and Sonakshi apart from our new lovebirds in terms of commitment and understanding. Family is important. Giving respect to your parents is important. Bullying and threatening your way through is not the same as standing up for your love. Dev and Sona have worked hard to be with each other and they continue to do so everyday by constantly putting their family ahead of themselves. Has it lessened their love for each other in any way? No it hasn't. Quite the opposite infact. Do I see Elena being as understanding and accepting of Vicky's faults and mistakes as Sona has been of Dev and vice versa? No I do not. Elena sounded so thoroughly nave when she said that being married isn't going to make much of a difference in her life. My first thought was - you're kidding me right? Loved how the look on Sona's face mirrored my own reaction there. It's so clear how these two kids have no idea what they have gotten themselves into. Both Elena and Vicky are far too impulsive and careless, thinking only about themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if the contrast between these two sisters throws light on Sonakshi's constant efforts to really become a part of this family and helps Ishwari realize just how unique and wonderful this girl is and how blessed she is to have her as her daughter in law. We have seen the approval Ishwari has for Sonakshi in general. It's only because of her insecurity that she is unable to embrace it fully and I'm wondering if that will change now. It will also be interesting if Ishwari and Sona end up working as one unit to help Elena as she settles down into married life. Or am I being too optimistic here? 😆
Anyway, as much as I disapprove of the match, I do wonder if this whole choosing-love-over-family will come into play once the issue of Sona's infertility surfaces. No I am not saying Dev and Sona should emulate Vicky and Elena, good heavens no. They wouldn't last two days in that case. However, Dev and Sona do need to understand that sometimes you have to choose your heart over everything else. Okay I guess I am not being clear enough. To say it's impractical to be together just because Sona can't bear a child is a stupid thought. Its horribly wrong to consider that infact. But if, if.. Ishwari suddenly decides that Dev should divorce Sona and remarry then Dev needs to put his foot down (On a side note: It was interesting what Ishwari said that she doesn't believe in breaking relationships. I wonder if that will remain true once she finds about this issue). Honestly I think the issue is ridiculous to begin with. Why must a man be declared mahaan simply because he is still willing to be with a women inspite of them not having kids? The point here is not that Dev should be seen as some selfless, sacrificial idiot... The point is choosing to be with the love of your life regardless of what your family wants. It's simple. Dev will never know happiness unless he has Sona by his side. It's self-preservative if you ask me... The man pretty much self-destructed without her and went to an extremely dark place. We have seen Dev grow in small, subtle yet important ways since then. I won't say that the situation of Vicky and Elena is what will plant the seed of rebellion in Dev, that happened long back when Dev simply couldn't stay away from Sonakshi and ended up exploding on his Mother. But what Vicky said to Dev about love clearly resonated with Dev. It told me how from within, Dev has moved beyond the blind reverence and worship he felt for Ishwari. He might not show it in the wildly passionate manner that is the norm for most leads on Indian TV but he recognizes that Sonakshi is his life and I believe he will work hard to make sure they stay together regardless of what his family wants from him.
On a lighter note, how crazily adorable were Dev and Sona in the garden today? Those smiles and the spark in their eyes when they laughed and teased each other, bundling themselves up in blankets only to get wet before laughing it off and hugging... Uff my shipper heart just died! Shaheer and Erica were beautifully natural. The moment was once again very telling of how Dev and Sona find a silver lining as long as they are with each other. :) No matter what, their love prevails.
And with that cheerful thought, I'll end my ramble. :) And yes yes, I am going to reply to everyone on my last post straight away! Sorry for being so terrible in that department.
