"K-Kushal?"

Sonakshi's face paled.

She most definitely had not expected this monster to turn up again. Dev had said he had been taken care of. So how was he here now? Did Dev lie? But why would he lie?

"Kya hua Sona? Darr gayi mujhey dekhkey?" Kushal sneered at her.

Sonakshi immediately tried to close the door on his face, but Kushal proved to be stronger and he pushed it open with such force that Sonakshi jerked back into the house. It was too late now. Kushal was already inside and had closed the main door with his foot.

Sonakshi quickly scrambled for her phone which was on the couch, but the moment she picked it up her heart felt ice cold. The battery was dead and there was no way on earth that she could call anyone. Seeing her in that position Kushal laughed out a cruel laugh. "Lagta hai iss baar kismat bhi wahi chahta hai jo main chahta hoon" he said looking at Sonakshi. He was still standing beside the dining table while Sonakshi was on the couch in front of the TV. He was still ten steps away from her but not for long.

"Par tumneye mujhey dhoonda kaise?" Sonakshi asked stalling his approach and looking for a loophole. One of Kushal's eyes had a black mark around it revealing the fact that he had been beaten up and his nose was held in position by a plaster, which had broken, courtesy of Dev. He half smiled at Sonakshi and gazed at her piercingly, "Tumheye kya laga? Apneye pyaarey Dev ko mere peechey bhej dogi aur main chala jaunga bhaag keye?" His smile disappeared. "You should have known better Sona. Main apni cheezon ko kabhi share nahin karta."

Folding his hands before his chest he leant against the dining table. "Ab kya hua? Bhaag gaya Dev tumheye yahan chhorkar?" He said smirking again. Sonakshi irked by his words said, "Tumheye jo pata nahin uskeye baarein meye baat mat karo Kushal" Kushal laughed sharply. "yahin baat toh mujhey itna pagal kar deti hai Sonakshi. Such attitude is position mey rehekey bhi" he said looking her up and down lecherously. Sonakshi was disgusted. She had started panicking inside. She needed to escape. NOW.

Gripping the remote in her hand she stood up, "Dekho Kushal, agar tum do minute me yahan se nahin gaye toh main chillaungi!" Kushal just looked amused. "Theek hai. Chillao. Par phir jab tak koi yahan tumhey bachaneye ayega, tum unheye nahin mil paogi" he finished calmly. Sonakshi gulped, "Matlab kya hai tumhara?" Kushal stood up straight and reached for something on the table. "Dekho Sonakshi, main tumharey liye badi mehnat se jail se bhag kar aya. Pata hai tumhara peecha karna kitna mushkil tha jab ki mere peechey hi police padi hai" he told her matter-of-factly. "Par main aa gaya tumharey peechey peechey yahan. Par issey pehley ki police yahan tak aa jayein, aur mera mood kharab karein-" he paused, retracting his hand and to Sonakshi's utter horror she saw that he was holding a knife.

He looked her straight in the eye and said, "Main apna kaam khatam karna chahta hoon. Agar tum meri nahin ho sakti, tum kisiki nahin ho sakti" saying this he lunged at her. Sonakshi screamed and ran towards the rear end of the house. She went into the first room on the right and tried closing the door but failed yet again. Kushal was right on her heels. Throwing the first thing that her hand came into contact with, at Kushal she was satisfied with the flesh object contact she heard and ran and hid behind the bed.

But Kushal recovered soon enough and didn't waste his time. Reaching Sonakshi, he literally dragged her out and grabbed her neck tightly. "Bas kuchh pal aur Sonakshi. Phir tum chali jaogi aur main tumharey peechey peechey aa jaunga" he laughed again. Sonakshi saw her own reflection on the dressing table mirror before her and realised she indeed would die. This was it. But just before she closed her eyes in surrender she her a loud bang and the hand on her neck loosened.

Immediately she opened her eyes and saw Ritwik holding a cricket bat, through the mirror. Turning around she saw Kushal lying on the ground. She didn't know how to react. She just sat there with eyes wide. Ritwik bent down and checked if Kushal was still breathing. "Rit-Ritwik? Woh mar gaya kya?" Ritwik looked up at her and smiled a bit, "Nahin. Behosh hai." Immediately after that they heard police sirens and minutes after that, they were inside, dragging Kushal out, assuring her of being safe now and taking her statement about what exactly happened.

After Sonakshi was brought back out to the living room, Ritwik made her sit down on the Sofa and gave her a glass of water. She still hadn't reacted. Numb in some kind of shock, she just nodded when necessary. Once the men had taken out Kushal and all the questions were done with Ritwik cam forward and sat beside his best friend, "Tum theek toh hai naah Sona?" He asked her with eyes full of concern. Seeing him look at her that way, something snapped in her and she broke down into tears in his arms.

Dev on the other hand tapped his fingers impatiently as his private jet landed on the Kolkata airport. As the plane touched down and slowly rolled to a stop, Dev whipped out his phone to switch it on and arrange for a car when he was surprised to see that there were almost forty missed calls. Assuming them to be from his family members who might still not know about the wedding being called off, he ignored it and arranged for a car first. He had taken gotten the address to Elena's house in Kolkata through his numerous contacts and was now ready to go there.

Sitting in the car he decided to see if there were calls from Riya or his mother. But he was shocked to see that all the calls were from his friend Inspector Prakash. He quickly called him back. "haan Prakash, bol. Sorry main plane me tha. Kya hua?" The answer his friend gave him made Dev tighten his hand into a fist and punch the seat in front of him. The poor driver got so scared that the car swerved a bit. Dev furiously yelled into the earpiece, "Woh bas***d ab kahan hai?"

Hearing that Kushal had been taken care of, Dev calmed down a little but then replied in an icy and dangerous tone saying, "Iss baar agar who bahar aya Prakash, tum logo ko toh main chodunga nahin, saath saath uska bhi permanent solution nikal dunga" When he was sure that his messaged had been received clearly, Dev asked Prakash, "Sonakshi ab theek hai naah? Mujhey abhi bhi time lagega uskey paas pohunchneye meye. I want to see if she is okay. Click a photo of her and send it to me. Abhi" he instructed his friend. Once Prakash agreed Dev disconnected the call and waited with baited breath.

On the other hand Ritwik succeeded in calming Sonakshi a bit. When all her tears had dried up finally, she sat up and wiped her eyes. "Thank you Ritwik. Thank you time par aaney ke liye." Ritwik hit he lightly on the forehead. "Pagal. Best friend ko koi thank you bolta hai kya?" Sonakshi smiled. But then furrowed her brows. "Par tum Kolkata kaise ayein?" Sonakshi questioned.

Ritwik smiled wider and said, "Aunty uncle ko tumhari itni chinta ho rahi thi ki unseye toh chup baitha hi nahin ja raha tha. Isiliye unhoneye mujhey yahan bhej diya tumhara khayal rakhneye kyunki aaj to Dev ka..." And he stopped. Sonakshi smiled sadly. Seeing her smile he continued, "Saurabh ko ana tha, but last minute me business ki koi kaam aa gayi toh main aa gaya aur abhi toh mera workload bhi kam hai. Aur dekha, aaney ka kitna bada fayda hua?" He said happily.

"Main iss ghar ke lane me ghusneye hi wala tha ki aa police car came up to me and Kushal ki photo dikhakar they asked if I had seen him. Tabh hi I knew kuch gadbad hai, but I didn't tell them. I asked them to be around aur seedha yahan aa gaya. And I was right. That bas***d was here" Ritwik finished angrily. "Room meye andar jaaney se pehley I informed the police aur phir TV ke peechey jo cricket bat tha who lekar I went to get you out" he finished seriously.

Sonakshi was so glad she had a family who cared for her so much. She was so lucky to have people who would never let her be alone. She silently sent thank you prayers back to Delhi, to her family. At that moment Elena's parents came rushing into the house and went straight to Sonakshi. The police had called them after taking Kushal away and they had come home in a hurry. "Shona! Theek acheesh tui?" (Shona, are you okay) Sonakshi smiled and hugged them, "haan Mesho and Mashi, I'm okay." They were in tears and hugged her tightly. On spotting Ritwik they thanked him profusely while Ritwik continuously refused to be thanked, with a laugh.

As things slowly settled down Sonakshi sat on the couch with a cup of coffee. She had talked to her family and assured them about her safety. But now her thoughts drifted to Dev. She wished he was here and she could find some solace in his arms. A tear escaped her eye. "Sona?" Ritwik came and sat beside her. "Dev ki yaad aa rahi hai?" She didn't reply verbally, but just kept her head on Ritwik's shoulder while he patted her head softly to comfort her. Unknown to them, Inspector Prakash took a picture from outside the window and sent it to Dev.

Hearing his phone ping Dev immediately opened the message. But on seeing the picture he couldn't smile. His Sonakshi was perfectly fine. He was ecstatic about that. But in the picture he could see that she didn't need him. Because she seemed content with her head on Ritwik's shoulder. Dev gripped the phone tighter. Was this it then? Had he lost Sonakshi to Ritwik?

Because it definitely seemed like that. He had lost his chance. Dev dropped his head in his hands. Sonakshi could never be his now. Serves him right for leaving her at the wrong moment. He didn't deserve her. She was so amazing and he was just a coward. And now he got his payback. This was it. She was safe with Ritwik. What was the point of him going to see her?

He couldn't even keep Kushal away from her. He had failed her and this was the best punishment. He decided to tell the driver to take him back to the airport because the truth was, he had lost Sonakshi and from what he could see, she would never have been his anyway.
