CHAPTER - 9

"You are right Dev, you should marry Surbhi only...most girls her age are not strong enough," Sonakshi said after analyzing the situation.

Dev nodded

"But I am not that strong Sonakshi" she could see the reflection of broken pieces of his heart on his face.

"I know there's another girl who will be happy to have a chance to go out with you" Sonakshi said with a fake smile. Though she wanted to remain that lucky girl.

"I remember the first time I saw you, I'd knew you'd be my girl...only my girl" Sonakshi whined as full blown tears fell from her. "I simply loved your voice. You know your voice is full and warms me from inside." scrubbing his nose, Dev tried to express his feelings for her. Though it wasn't necessary as Sonakshi was clearly aware of Dev's intense feelings for her.

Sonakshi was going through so many mixed feelings. She wanted her Dev forever...but he was never hers. Now she realized.

It was a difficult decision for her to take...but right now, for her, Surbhi's future was on stake more than hers.

"Do you think that everything will be alright after this? Will I be able to stop thinking about you? Will you be able to stop loving me?" Dev wanted Sonakshi to give the answer of his question. He was unable to think of anyone else. That was his twisted fascination for his love, Sonakshi. That was shameful really even for Dev.

"It just doesn't feel right anymore "disconnecting her eye contact from Dev's, she replied.

"Hmmm...You are important for me and will remain precious" said Dev holding her hands as he realized finally time has arrived.

"Same here Dev." Sona asked "I must go now"

"May I hug you?" he literally wanted to hug her.

"Dev, don't make it more difficult for me" Sona took her bag and walked out of the cabin.

Mera pehla pyar adhura rah gaya,Dev

Dev felt cold and desolated when she left. There was pain, grief, the darkness inside him. He felt like he lost everything in just one single day.

Seems to me like something very precious is slipping out of my hand.

But he found himself ...that he gained...AT LAST.

Bose House

"Bejoy, mujhe samajh nahi aa raha ki tum Shona ki shadi ke liye itni jaldi kyon kar rahe ho...main maa hun uski, main jaanti hun abhi uske dil main sirf Dev hai" Asha explained her point of view.

"Asha,I know this very well...plz trust me ,I also want her happiness...back" replied Bejoy.

Doorbell rang.

Asha went to open the door.

"Shona, kahan thi tu? Poore do ghante late hai " said Asha in irritation.

"maa , when will you grow up?I am fine, today is my friend's birthday isliye thoda ruk gayee thi..that's it" Sona lied.

"Beta ,kuch baat karni hai tujhse,"

"Hmmm...yaa tell me"

"Tere baba ne teri shadi Dev ke cousin brother Vicky se fix kar di hai" Asha said giving her a glass of water. Her entire body froze in shock. " Vicky bohot achha ladka hai." Asha insisted.

"aapne jo decide kiya hoga mere liye who sahi hi hoga." Sona said flatly.

"Shona , Dev ko apne aur Vicky ke alliance ke bare mein khud se mat batana" Bejoy said firmly. He somewhere knew where Sonakshi was today.

"Par?...achha theek hai"she was confused but agreed.

"kya baat hai Shona?"Asha asked looking at her eyes which were mismatched snapped open, hollow and full of grief.

"Ahh...nothing" all she was able to say putting the glass into the sink.

She went up to her room put her bag inside the study table.

She sat down on the bed and again started thinking about Dev, how much he had gone through...poor boy.

"Dev" she whispered. It was heart-breaking for her to see Dev in such a state. Tears streamed down her cheeks again.

Sona threw herself on the bed and cried and cried in a hope that those tears might be able to take away her unbearable pain. She looked at the ceiling fan. She hugged her teddy tightly and cried like never before.

It wasn't easy for her to learn the pain of losing something most precious.

Next evening

Sona saw Dev striding outside her college.

"Nidhi ,tu jaa ke auto bula..main aati hun"

Sonakshi went to Dev.

"What are you doing here?"

"ahh...actually I don't know" Sonakshi saw a restless Dev standing in front of her who was looking her with hungry and thirsty eyes. Sonakshi read his eyes like no one can.

"Dev, forget me." She nearly choked

"Sonakshi , kaise bhool jaaun...mujhse nahi ho paa raha"

"I don't think we should see each other anymore" Her perfect black eyes finally met Dev's light brown eyes. "Baba ne meri shadi fix kar di hai...ab kuch nahi ho sakta...let me go now"

"Shadi???" Dev sent her a look of disbelief.

He looked clearly upset, annoyed and frustrated after hearing this whereas Sona tried to stay calm and in control of the situation.

Without replying him, she sat inside the auto with Nidhi and went away.

"Sonakshi listen...Sonakshi...Sona," a hoarse cry came out of his mouth. He ran and ran behind the auto but it went out of the sight and so was Sonakshi.

SHADI...how could she do this with me.. No,I could not believe it...what went wrong with her. Can't she see my deep feelings for her? Damn her to hell. How she can leave me? But why am I angry on her? That's not her fault. AH...I know she don't want to come between Surbhi and me.

He was going to hell ...that was for sure. Dev was not only broken but mangled and shattered in a million.

I don't want to be with you forever but I NEED to be with you forever...don't leave me...plz don't walk out from my life...I would die..

He was so lost in his thoughts that he left his car and walked and walked, until he arrived at his house.

With heavy heart, he went straight up to his room and pushed the door open. He didn't want to see or hear anyone at that moment. He lay down on his coffin, his so called bed, motionless as a cadaver and cried silently.

Lawn : evening 7:30

It was raining out there.

"Surbhi,i want to tell you something." Dev wanted to tell Surbhi about his love for Sona but at the same time he was also concerned about Surbhi's future.

"I know ...that you love me!" Dev looked at her shockingly, with puzzled look he continued "Surbhi, I know we both once decided that if we will ever marry then we will marry each other only...so here am I with a marriage proposal" Dev, a businessman , was unable to came straight to the point.

"Marriage proposal...Huh...pagal...itna ganda face banana ki zaroorat nahi hai...I know you are in love but not with me" this time Surbhi left him stunned. "No need to give clarification, I know everything".

"Par tujhe kaise pata?"

"Main kal tere office aayee thi...and sorry but I peeked inside your cabin and saw a girl with you".said Surbhi ,making a feel sorry face whereas Dev scowled.

"OH... very bad Surbhi...toh...then what? You know me"

"Lekin office mein??"

Office was never the right place for such stuff for Dev.

"Dev, I saw you were not touching her? Mujhe bohot strange laga"

"kya strange?" he narrowed his eye brows

"Why you were not touching her? Only she was and that too insanely yaar ??As far as I know you, you like crushing rose petals...I know you will never let any girl crush you... main ussi waqt samjh gayee that you are in love"

"You know me better" Dev said"Surbhi,I know that you like me... I am sorry I never meant to hurt you."

"Toh kya mere liye apni aur uski jaan dega kya?" She paused, "pyar kissi se ,shadi kissi aur se karo,yeh sahi nahi hai...kyon khud ke saath saath do aur zindgi barbaad kar rahe ho."Kya ek doosre ko samajhna yaa janna kafi hai shadi karne ke liye." Surbhi confronted.

"I broke my promise...I broke your trust...I am sorry...I love Sonakshi...lekin woh kissi aur se shadi kar rahi hai "

"Kyon?"she tilted her head in question.

"Doesn't she love you?"He didn't tell her the actual reason "Uski shadi fix ho gayee hai...Lekin Surbhi, I love her. I need nothing to remind me of her. "His control on emotions refused to cooperate him anymore.

He went out in the lawn where iciness ruffled over his skin and a wave of sorrow washed over him. Suddenly he fell to his knees, weeping, sobs racking his frame. "WHY?" He bawled at the uncaring sky, bitter tears mixing with the rain water..."WHY? Why you do this to me? What did I do wrong? You took away my childhood...you took away my happiness...my innocence...you took away MY SOUL! And once I gave my heart to *her* .You take her away too from me. Where did I go wrong? Why?" and banged his fist on the wet cold ground." WHY WHY me always"

Sky didn't answer.

"This is His justice...this is what He wanted...He can't see us happy" She murmured

Now she bellowed, pointing her index finger towards the sky "Is this your justice? Don't look up there Dev. He won't answer you.He is deaf,dumb and blind...usne aaj tak kabhi humein dard ke siwaa kya diya hai?...Stop expecting anything from Him. Yeh saari galti uss ki hai ...main tujhe nahi chah sakti...tu usse nahi chah sakta...par ab bas .Dev ,You will have to bring Sonakshi back in your life. We will have to take revenge from God for whatever He has done with us. Nobody can take our happiness away from us."Surbhi said in frustration.

It is much harder to standup to someone you love.

"Nahi...I don't want to come in between Sonakshi's decision. Main nahi chahta use lage ki tumhare mana karne ke baad main uske paas gaya"

"Mana maine nahi tumne kiya hai Dev"

"Hum dono ne kiya hai..." Dev corrected her "jo bhi ho usse toh aisa hi lagega."

"Glad to see a changed man. You were untamed and wild but Sonakshi changed you" Surbhi was happy to see a new figure standing in front of her eyes. "Dev main Chicago wapas jaana chahti hun" Dev agreed and gave her a side hugs.

Sonakshi's POV

I love you Dev...will love you forever. It is as simple as that...so happy to know that you love me too. But how can you marry me...no I can't come in between you and Surbhi ...you both have seen a lot... Yaah Surbhi also has full right to be happy. You have made me so weak Dev but I will stop myself. I know it's not good ...it's dark and self-destructive. You can't love me but I can. Impossible love doesn't stop me from loving you.

Though she wanted to forget Dev but as they say there is no remedy for memory. She closed her eyes just to see Dev. Otherwise it was only when Dev used to touch her she closed her eyes. The touch she could not bear. The touch was what would destroy her. It was that powerful.

It was raining heavily out there and Sona was standing near the window of her room. Tears streaming from her eyes ...as though sky was also weeping with her, for her. She looked up the black sky, few droplets fell on her face but her eyes were only staring at a lone star which was twinkling like a ray of hope. Hopeless hope.

And she came through wind and went away with rain

While I debated what to do with my pain.
