Whoever says, "We're getting married !! Yayyy! !" and thinks she/he can control every single aspect of it perfectly would be a very naive person... Marriage, in the West, could be just get to a church , say the vows of promise, exchange rings, register and voila !!
But in Asia, rich in culture and religious values, have lots of other (for want of a better word,) complications. Marriage is not that simple. Dev and Sonakshi are being very naive in thinking that its just a rasam away, or just a matter of getting on someone's good books. Yesterday's episode was a study of how many things happen around the couple wanting to marry, and how much those chemical reactions will contribute to a peaceful wedding and future marriage.
Poor Sonakshi. She is being honest and earnest, she is transparent and guileless. Trying hard to be on the good books of Dev's Goddess, his Mother. She is very innocent and feels if she tries hard enough, her honesty and sincerity will pay off. Her parents taught her that, its principled and correct. but it is no match for the conundrum that is Ishwari Dixit.
Ishwari KNOWS why she is unhappy. Dev has been lying to her, hiding Sonakshi from her, changing his preferences, spending time with Sonakshi instead of her. After hiding and sneaking about, he waltzes in and announces he is in love, "EVERYONE ! i LOVE HER. YOU ALL MUST RIGHT AWAY, ACCEPT HER IN THIS HOUSE AS YOUR OWN... !
She isn't done being mad at Dev. It hurts her that he isn't sensitive to the fact that she is still distant, unexcited about his newfound lovestory. SHe wants or rather expects to be mollified and pampered, but he just said his piece and took for granted that it is a green light.
So, she can't take it out on Dev, because he's not turned on the radar to detect this supposed huge mistake that he did. She turned on the convenient target. Sonakshi.
There is no mistake there. She does not approve of Sonakshi. And Sona saw it and interpreted it correctly. She is not a fool. But she has this "I won't fail attitude", and thinks if she tries harder and stoops low to conquer, it will work.
But alas, Ishwari spoke to her as though she was on lower status that Dev and his family. Whereas I remember correctly, how polite and courteous she was to Natasha, and her family, because they were richer and with business interests. But Sonakshi is an employee, a Bengali (not sure how that is by anyway lowerđ, ugh), of poorer prospects. Hence the disdain.
Imagine if Neha was a boy and Ranveer was the girl he wanted to marry? See the double standards??! đĄ
Every intimidating word she spouted at Sonakshi wasn't downright nasty (like GKB would do it) but mean and negative nonetheless. Sonakshi already feels incompetent and goes into her kitchen at home to learn cooking from her mum. Sweet soul that Asha is, she gladly gives Sona tips and gives her hands on approach, maturely understanding that at one point, most daughters are judged by whether or not they can cook.
If you disagree, then you are probably one of lucky ones who got a better deal.
But Bijoy came in and was very angry at that sight. He refuses to understand that Sonakshi wants to learn, so she doesn't feel so inadequate in front of Ishwari. But he is adamant that the Dixits accept her for who she is, rather than what she can do for them.
Asha is emotional, she longs to agree with Bijoy, but senses that Sonakshi needs all the help she can get, and wisely stayed in neutral ground. Bijoy continued to be troubled later on, and senses that Dev's mother is trouble. We've seen the boy Sona chose, now let's go meet what kind of a sasural she chose with it...
And they arrive unannounced, uninvited at Dev's doorstep. It wasn't wrong of them to do so. Ishwari and GKB need to know Sonakshi is not alone, she has a full supportive family behind her. Going to survey the other side so to speak. It wasn't to speak of rishta as yet, just to introduce themselves, and save the two kids the trouble and do it themselves. It was wise, because Bijoy and Asha got an earful and eyeful of what Sonakshi has been dealing with.
I'm happy that her family knows exactly how the situation is for her. All the power to the Boses. I didn't expect Ishwari to behave less than impeccable though, that was surprising. She does not appear friendly or welcoming, Bijoy and Asha correctly read it all. How pleasant the Boses were, and there Ishwari sat, with GKB sneering down her crooked nose at them.
That meeting got me all anxious. It spelled problems. The Boses will not have allowed their daughter into such an unhealthy environment, it would swallow their child up whole.
Ishwari does not want Dev to marry AT ALL. I think Mama ji also is seeing the unhealthy signs of Ishwari's psyche. Goodness, what an avalanche of troubling emotions.
Precap: For some reason Ishwari wants to be asleep before Dev gets home from work. Did something else happen in the meeting of the families?? What happened that she wants to avoid speaking to Dev? She is anxious and the sleeping pill (x3) she took didn't work, so swallows too many. And faints.
It wasn't a suicide attempt.
P/s: My own personal Ishwari Dixit is visiting next month, and my adrenaline is pumping like nobody's business...đđ
