Chapter 15:
"We can talk in my room if you don't mind" He replied after a few tensed seconds.
She just walked inside his room wordlessly and sat on the bed. Dev followed her quietly. He knew her too well to realize that this is just the calm before a storm.
"I probably have no right to ask this" Sona's voice was soft this time "..but where were you?".
"I had to go meet one of our client" Dev looked at her carefully...she seemed peaceful..suddenly!
"And never once did it cross your mind that you should atleast inform me about this meeting of yours ...not because you owe me any explanation..but because we came to Seattle togather and that makes us responsible to each other in some ways?"
"You specifically asked me not to disturb you the last time we had conversation" Dev was tired now.
"So today you will do whatever I say?"She tried her best to keep the sarcasm out of her voice.
Dev did not bother with his reply this time. For some strange reasons his instincts were warning him today.
"I know why you are doing this.We have tons of unresolved issues between us. Perhaps we both owe each other a lot of explanations. And instead of working on it we both are avoiding any sensible discussion. But what if I don't want to talk about past yet? What if I tell you that I am not ready to look behind and wonder what went wrong. And maybe someday when I am sure that past has stopped hurting..we will sit and talk..deal?"She was out of breath now.
It took Dev some time to actually sink in whatever she said.
Will she really become that indifferent?' He wondered.
Sona was just watching him quietly. She was tired of listening to her heart and head all the time. It was time to take a decision and she needed all her strength to go through with it.
"Can I ask you something more?"She asked.
"Yes"he answered knowing very well what she was about to ask.
"Why did you kiss me?"She dropped the bomb.
Because I am still in love with you' He wanted to say.
"I don't know. It's one of those things which just happens" He said instead.
Sona was disappointed with this answer but she tried not to show and was successful in it.
Maybe there is no love left between them anymore' She thought.
Dev was having a hard time keeping his emotions in check. He wanted to be alone now. But today Sona was nothing if not full of surprises.
"Okay..maybe its my fault..I was not taking it the way I should have" She was thoughtful now.
"Meaning?"
"Meaning its just a kiss...a physical act to express sexual desire. If we just take it that way imagine how easy things will become for us" she finished.
"So you are suggesting..." This cant be happening!' he thought
"Yes...instead of fighting the physical attraction maybe we should just embrace it. Atleast I will be able to focus the next day" She answered folding his coat.
In past Sonakshi had hurt Dev many a times sometimes knowingly and sometimes unknowingly. But all that was nothing in comparison to what he was feeling that exact moment.
"Aunty ..is Sona home?"Dev was in hurry that day.
"Haan Dev beta..apne room main hai"
"Can I meet her?"
"Sure..."
It took him some time to get her open the door. She was always the kind of people who locks themselves up after serious fight or arguments and cry themselves to sleep. Today was no exception.
"Why are you here?Itni larai karne ke baad mere pass kyu aate ho?"Sona's eyes were red.
"Mujhe to aana hi tha...iss baar galti meri thi na"Dev explained.
"Oh accha...teen ghante ke baad ye realise hua tumhe?"Sona argued.
"Sona...i am sorry...gusse main mera dimag kaam karna band kar deta hai you know na"
"Gusse main ho to kuch bhi bologe ...do you have any idea what all those words made me feel"Sona started crying all over again.
Dev didn't know how to handle this situation. All he did was hold her securely in his arms while she vented.
"I am sorry" He said repeatedly.
"Are you sure that you love me Dev?"
"Sona..please don't say that." Things were not going smooth between them since past few weeks and he did hurt her at times. He was desperate to make things all right between them. There was a moment of passion and they both got carried away and kissed.
Sona started crying again.
"Arey ab kya hua?"He asked.
"That was our first kiss" She said emotionally.
He blinked. This is the same sentimental girl who cried after their first kiss!!!
Standing at her full height Sonakshi was atleast five inches shorter than him. Rising on her tiptoes she kissed him on his cheek softly, lingering for sometime. His breathing quickened.
"Sona...I hope you know what you are doing, because this" he added "is complication".
Before she could withdraw herself, his arms were around her. She felt again the rush of helplessness that left her limp. He bent back her head across his arm and kissed her, softly at first, and then with a swift increment of intensity that made her cling to him. His insistent mouth was parting her shaking lips, sending wild tremors along her nerves, evoking from her sensations she had never known she was capable of feeling. And before a swimming giddiness spun her round and round, she knew that she was kissing him back.
"I will faint!" she whispered, trying to turn her head weakly from him.
He stopped immediately but she held onto him.
"Don't stop..else I will have this nagging feeling of something incomplete between us".
"Will you promise not to regret anything when you go out of this room?" He had quick decisions to make.
"I do"
Dev smiled.
"You have surprised me like no one ever could Sona. But the fact remains" He said while locking the door " that You and I...will always be an unfinished business."
