"Dev, kya hua?" Ishwari asked her beloved son with a hint of worry in her faltering voice.
"Kuch nahi, maa."
"Dev, I'm your mother. I know something is up. Please tell me."
Dev gave her a helpless look. How could he tell her that he was upset because of the engagement that was just a few hours away? She was so excited to finally marry him off, that too into the reputable Gujral family. It was her biggest dream. And Dev was just seconds away from destroying it.
"Woh.." Dev sat next to her and placed a hand on hers. "Natasha is a nice girl, maa."
"Han Dev, toh?"
"I don't know if this engagement is right..."
Ishwari stood up abruptly, eyes bulging in shock. "Kya?"
"I know this is kind of late to tell you, but I don't love Natasha. She is just my friend. I cannot imagine myself getting married to her."
"That's the problem? If you don't love her now, you'll fall in love later. Just get engaged to her, then everything will get better, beta." Ishwari smiled, softly rubbing his back.
"No maa. I can't fall in love with her ever, because I love somebody else."

The pillow under Sona's head was moist, as tears dropped down her round cheeks. It was happening. Her first love was getting engaged while she was crying here with a broken heart. She lifted the Forbes magazine on her bedside table- the one she talked to, the one she practiced confessions with. "Mr. Dixit. That's all you will ever be for me. My boss. And here I am, weaving away love stories with a business mogul." A hot tear dropped out of her eye, falling on to the magazine. "I wish you happiness forever, Mr. Dixit." The buzz of her house's doorbell shook her from her dejected thoughts. Wiping away her tears, she proceeded to open the main door.
Dev stood at Ms. Bose's doorstep with a bouquet of roses in his hand. He heard the click of the door opening, only to realize that it was Ms. Bose herself.
"Obhodro? What are you doing here?"
"Seriously Ms. Bose? You still wanna call me that?"
"Isn't your engagement today?" She looked confusingly at the bright red flowers in his hand.
"Aren't you going to call me in?" Sona thought a bit, and then reluctantly ushered him in.
Dev looked at Sona again, and it was quite apparent from her swollen eyes and her red nose that she was crying.
"Ms. Bose, are you ok? Have you been crying?" Dev asked with concern, placing his hand on her head. "You are burning with fever!"
Sona shuddered at his gentle touch. "Yeah... that is why I called in sick, Mr. Dixit."
"Where is your family?"
"They went shopping. I wasn't well so I stayed back." "By the way Mr. Dixit, you still haven't told me why you're here." Sona crossed her arms, staring at him for an appropriate answer.
"I had to tell you something important, Sonakshi." Sona felt a shiver down her back at his mention of her name. How beautiful he made her name sound as it seamlessly rolled off of his tongue.
Dev got down on to one knee, eliciting a gasp from Sona.
"Sonakshi, I know this is unexpected. And that you thought that I was getting engaged to Natasha. But last night I realized something. Something really important." Sona sensed the urgency of his words from his serious voice. "This may sound stupid, but my sisters helped me realize who I really loved. And it wasn't Natasha." Dev looked up at Sona, who was intently listening to him with widened eyes. "Everywhere I look, I see you. Everytime I close my eyes, I see you. Your smile. Your beautiful eyes. I still don't know what love is, but whenever I look at you, I know that I love you. Don't ask me why." Dev sighed. This sounded so much better in my head. He pulled out a round velvet box, opening it to reveal a sparkling diamond ring. "Will you marry me... Sona?"
Her heart burst hearing his affectionate words. Is this reality? Or am I dreaming again?
"Sona?"
She couldn't seem to formulate words as tears began to stream down her face again. Dev stood up, and cupped her face with his hands, wiping away her tears. He looked straight into her eyes.
"Sona, if you're not ready for this, it's ok. Just tell me."
His voice brought solace to her. His touch... felt right. She hadn't never felt this ecstatic.
"Devvv..." She grabbed him in a tight embrace. Dev was caught in shock by her sudden reaction. He smiled as she tightened her hold on him, as she ran her nimble fingers delicately through his fluffy hair. Dev wrapped his large arms around her small body, admiring how perfectly she fit in his arms. Lifting her off of her feet, Sonakshi giggled as he spun her petite body around. Laughs escaped her as she continued to cry in pure happiness. He placed her down gently, cupping her face again. Dev pressed a soft kiss on her forehead, as his touch lingered on her skin.
"I love you Sona..." He pressed his forehead against hers, smiling. Man, what has love done to me. I feel so mushy... and so happy. Is this what happiness feels like?
"I love you too Mr.- Dev" Dev gasped at Sona and then laughed with her, grabbing her in a tight embrace again.
