Was waiting for someone to give their take on Dev's profound line. And you did! So thanks for your interpretation! I agree and it's made me think a bit.
Just loved the hand hold!!! Yet another 'solid' sign of Dev's interest in Sona. A previous indication that comes to mind is during the dance at the award function, when he again easily took the lead and towed Sona on to the dance floor and kept her there whenever she showed signs of leaving.Today again he does that. But then adds weight to that moment with his profound words. If he'd wanted to go to the dinner all he had to say was "don't worry! I'll ensure the door is fixed before your family returns." Or some such thing. For a man of his resource and means he could easily have got it repaired. But he doesn't say that! Instead he refuses to let Sona break the door. Without knowing what the CVs have in store for us by way of explanation tomorrow, it seems to me that Dev doesn't want any harm to come to Sona's house. It is important to him that Sona, indeed her family, remains untouched by any turbulence. The touch of bitterness makes me think he is drawing on his own childhood and how it fell apart with the loss of his father. He would not want that apshagun to be visited on Sona.He wants all things good for Sona. And that's more important to him than even the dinner with his VIP partner. There's all the proof that Sona could ever want that he cares more for her than he's does for Natasha, of even his business deal. Elena should be over the moon. And rightly so!!
Thank You for such a compelling and enticing post. Had been dying to discuss this on the forum today. Dev's line reflected his own thoughts. He has grown up in a house where he has always tried to keep relationships intact, but yet has had a broken childhood. He and Neha have singlehandedly taken responsibility of the house while their mother was working. They could not have even afforded the broken door when they were at a different time. Good times may have befallen his family, but his value for each paisa of rupees is still the same. He was taught the importance of both, albeit too early on in his life. It broke my heart the way Shaheer delivered it so flawlessly.Dev does not have a lot of people whom he gets emotionally attached to. Sona is a completely different case. Dev is slowly developing a deep connection with Sonakshi wherein he is revealing things he has never spoken to in front of anyone outside his family and trusting her not to tell that to anybody (cue: accident scene). He is genuinely concerned about her wellbeing and appreciates her for who she is. Sona can also see that behind the tough exterior is a lost child who does not know how to feel for himself anymore. She can gage how unselfishly he does things for his siblings but forgets he deserves a chance to be happy too.Loved how this scene shows the progression they are taking from Boss and Employee to friendship. So much that he is not even caring about missing the dinner until Ishwari gave him a wake up call. It is only with Sonakshi we get to see the Dev that lets go of his inhibitions and actually behaves his age (or like a child) but he has a endearing smile plastered on his face. She is, implicitly teaching him the meaning of life. Love has blossomed from Sonakshi's side but Dev will take his sweet time because he has never had the time to experience love at any juncture and it will be wonderful to see his journey towards balancing practicality, responsibility and sensibility with his attraction towards Dr. Sonakshi Bose. Also, as our other forum member @tvbug2011 noticed, he did take the lead at the dance too. Even there he felt the most comfortable taking her to dance because he knew his mother trusts her enough to want her there with them. Shows that even though it is somewhat driven by Ishwari, he has come to like her too. Actually, even in the matrimonial site sequence, Tina noticed that Dev was trying to paint the most positive picture of Sona because somewhere he was intrigued by her wit and mysterious outlook. That was one of the times even Sona mentioned how private she is as a person. That too binds them together. They might have different personalities but they do not let in others in their lives too easily.
