OLD IS GOLD: Let’s discuss!!!

Dear friends

When taking part in the Old vs New Songs debate, I was reflecting on the lyrics of the old songs. By old I mean classics from the 50s, 60s and even 70s era, focussing mainly on the lyrics of Kannadasan, music of Vishwanathan- Ramamoorthy, KSV and songs by TMS, P. Susheela, AM Raja and Jikki and so on. I would like to share my favourite songs with you and especially with our young members like pokkiri, Sri, meli etc. The sheer magical poetry of these lyrics, the mellifluous musical flow of these songs make them evergreen and classics, and they really arouse emotions even today. This morning, I heard this song and it is now playing in ny mind:

The song was sung by TMS for Asohan!!! What meaningful lyrics and how romantic.....sigh.

That one called for "oli mayamana ehtikalam " from patchai vilakku is good
to hear when Sivjai drives around the car, cause I begun to like it after
hearing it from our road trip😃 I have many others..shall come back later

No, this is golden oldies Roj, and is outside the timeframe given to the debaters. I felt like starting a new thread on this after listening to Sun Music on Sunday.

I can recognise two songs from your list: Roja Malare Rajakumari is indeed a lovely song. It is from a movie with Anandan called Veera Thirumugan released in 1962. Lyrics by Kaviarasu. Kannum Kannum is of course from Vanjikottai Valiban - I just love that song and the dance competition between Vyjanthimala and Padmini. It seems Padmini was supposed to win the competition but Vyjanthimala would not have it...so he solved the problem by getting a chandelier crash on the floor and so it was a draw.

The latest and very pale imitation was the dance competition between Simran and Ramya Krishnan in Panchatanthiram. 😃
