Krishnan, the real reason why M.R. Radha shot MGR (it ranks at the same level as "Who shot JFK?" mystery), T.M. Soundararajan, the exploits of Kannadasan etc.

I have chosen the oldies as my areas of interest as there is a dearth of information on them. We know a lot about the newbies, sometimes more than necessary. 😕 😆

Pray.. if she was already a great star with tremendous star value/acting skills, why would she need anyone's intervention to be cast in any movie, let alone Surya's? AFAIK, recommendations and other things are only needed when someone needs a break and not when they are busy filling their kitty with pouring offers. I'm not sure if this is a good example, but I can think of Ileana.. these Tamil producers with Vijay, Surya, Ajith, Vikram's call sheets in hand have been begging her to sign up a tamil movie 'cos the heroes esp, Vijay has been long waiting to "pair-up" with her. I'm just giving this example to say, when you're a hot cake, you really don't need any special recommendation to sign up a movie. And Jyothika was far from that for a good couple of years.

There was this one time, when almost all tamil mags were yelling to her, of course for her own good.. "Hold your horses, Jyo..the ever growing body and pay that you are demanding isn't going to help you" and she probably was too busy to listen, counting all the money. And like Cinema lover said, Kiran happened to be a good substitute at that time. And it's bizarre that Kiran while trying to imitate Jyothika, first had to follow the weight! And of course, she got kicked out just like Jyothika was! Needless to say, Kiran was more of an eye sore at one point. I mean.. how could these actresses not take care of their middle!!

That's precisely why Jyothika was out. When you haven't really proved your mettle in terms of acting (like she did in the latter part of her career), which could probably help sustain your market, your body/how you look is your best bet. If you couldn't even take care of your "investment", then how could you ever reap rewards?!

Get real.. those of you who say it's all about acting.. we are not living in Savithri/SarojaDevi days.. I mean..Look at Ileana, other than her curvy hour glass figure, I really don't know what else she's got! And yes.. that's what most fans (and I'm not talking about you, specifically) want to see in a heroine and that's one of the things that producers use to market their movie.. just like how it used to be a "must have", to include a Silukku's song in every movie that was made in those years 😊
And Jyothika realized that fact a bit too late after she lost her market.

Ditty..some of what you said is agreeable with me as well. I really thought she was cute in Vaali, it did seem like a innocent, pretty face, who was sort of like a breath of fresh air. And then I totally lost it for her, after I saw her performance in Kushi. Soooo way-over-the-top over acting and in my opinion, puke worthy. She was just hamming it up in movies after that. And the pretty, innocent face that I liked to see was gone. I don't know if you've ever watched this show..I even used to like a girl in the popular TV show "Friends" (who was Ross's girlfriend on the show for an entire season) b'cos she used to look like Jyothika in Vaali.

Oh Gosh.. I started this nearly an hour ago and I had to be bothered so many times with work.. Romba aniyaayam.. not fair..nimmadhiya type panna kooda vida maatengaranga pa work la 😃

Anyway, I think her performance was just mediocre in Chandramukhi. Her dance was a complete non-sync in some places with the able dancer Vineet. She did get a lot of rehearsal time as I read in interviews, not just limited time. With every single shot in that dance sequence being cut to a second, there's no point in praising her dance. Who are we kidding? It was just way too ordinary. And her way of creating the scare in the audience, by getting her eyes as wide open as she can, if that's what's called able acting, then I'll just laugh it off. I have only watched 2 versions of this movie, and Shobana was a class apart, not taking into good the good story, direction and what not (in the Mal version)! Shobana in that character.. Chance ey illa.. Super!

The tamil movie was a hit with the masses (not the IF masses)only b'cos of Rajini, Rajini and Rajini. People were longing to see him in a entertainer like that. It had all "Rajinisms" that fans were desperately waiting for.. "Thalaivaaaaa" nnu wait pannitu irundhanga. With Vasu retouching the story filling it with Rajinisms, that would have been a hit, with any heroine, even with a new comer like Nayantara playing the role of Chandramukhi, forget Simran or Jyothika.

Chandramukhi, shivaji being hits ..I don't think it's possible for Rajini to give any flops for as long as he's making movies. Such is the Rajini fever among his fans, worldwide. Stroy, direction, heroine ellam secondary dhaan (but still Rajini wishes for Ash.. adhu vera matter). Baba was a spiritual attempt and it did not have the "Rajinisms" that his fans and what the tamil masses in general, expected to see in his movie. It definitely did not reach out to the non-Hindus and the less spiritual/devout people. Even Rajini seems to have realized that.. Sivaji ellam full masala, so will be Robot!

Anyway coming back to Jyothika, she did quite well in Mozhi. But at the risk of repeating what cinema lover said, that was not what made the movie a hit. It was extreme marketing and a good story, direction and other things I've said before. Any good actress would've sufficed.

Since I see some posts always touching upon "Indians" and their tastes.. if Tamils outside India are only looking forward to "acting" why do they pay so much to see actors/actress dance in skimpy clothes in the so called film dance shows in their country? Tamils outside India are no better! Refraining from making such comments on Indians and their tastes, might be a better idea, in this forum.

I understand that Jyothika is sort of a demi goddess to most of you here, and I do not hate her as some of you probably think. But I've gotta say, what I've gotta say.

And yours wasn't provocative as some of the other posts were either. Seriously, I actually was surprised that we thought alike in terms of certain movies of Jyothika's.

argument eppa thaan mudiya pohutho.. first of all, i'm a
great fan of jyo and i started liking her since i was abt 8
or 9. my two close cousins hated her and we used to and
still do have arguments abt jyo. probably this is the reason
why i started liking jyo more and more! however, i used to
go on abt how jyo is so talented in all her movies, starting
from valli to mozhi. but truely i didn't like some of her movies
- star, puvellam un vaasam, 123, little john, raja, three roses
and manikanda!! but other than these movies.. all her other
movies are good, too good!!😉 (this is my view abt jyo!!)

I seconded with Sri here 😉 I do like Jo, but some of her movies..I just cant stand them at all like Sri mentioned 123, raja, little jhohn and 3 roses 😳

Earlier in her carrier..she used to overact a lot, esp in Kushi, i guess cause of the language.

Those of you who wonder how Jo was cast in so many films despite her average looks and that she got chances cause of Surya…she survived in kollywood for more than 9 years, we all know its a male dominated industry so this talks about her acting skills and talent 😉

Regarding her dance in Chandramukhi, she did it good to be a non - trained classical dancer so we should give her credits for her effort. Comparing her with Shobana is unfair, she is a trained classical dancer and national award winner…personally I do like Manichithrathazhu best as it was on a serious note but they messed it up in CM cause of super stars role..i guess thats the different between mallowood and kollywod, actress will never get scoope to act equaly to the actors as its male dominated.

Just a small reminder..whenever u guys discuss things, dont bring up old burried stuff..it should be forgotten by now, and dont bring up peoples nationality...be a indian or whatever..cant we all enjoy cinema.?😕

But there are a couple of posters, who always bring nationality - especially Indian this, Indian that.. which takes the fun out of the discussion. As I said in my post y'day, initially I didn't want to be a part of yet another discussion on Jyothika. The only reason I even posted something was, there was some labelling going on about some "Indian's biased opinion" when Cinemalover posted his /her views. Since I saw no moderator's comment or intervention y'day, I had to warn Cinema lover about the trend here, especially with the underlying superiority some posts contain. If you wanted to warn her/him, you could have used the PM service right?😉

And then again, I see a sarcastic note in a post today that says something about the tastes of"Tamil audience in India". Why is there any reference to country here? And no intervention from moderator again. I think some of the past issues lied unsolved so thats why this reaction...many of us are also indians here Jenim as much as you are, but the one who first started this was cinemalover...so this come as a reply to that post, no offence to us others.

After reading this, do you want Indians to just be sitting and reading those sarcastic comments? Tamil movie fans are the same wherever they are in the world. The movie is made for the masses in India and one country's fans have no superior taste over the other. And primarily a tamil movie is made for tamils in India, keeping their tastes in mind! Agreed on that, but now its universel...we should also keep that in our mind..whenever nadigar sangam needs money..you know one of the first contries they run to collect money will be M'sia and other foreign contries liek UK, Dubai etc
