Last rites complete, Kuljeet's family to return to Delhi

Friday was spend in post-funeral prayers, packing up actress's belongings.

Mumbai, February 10: KULJEET Randhawa's Juhu flat, usually empty and silent for most of the day, was full of activity on Friday—the sights and sounds of the 28-year-old's post-funeral prayers. Though the last rites were performed on Thursday afternoon—the day after the television actress hanged herself with a dupatta in her house—the family organised a pooja on Friday morning, to pray for her soul. The rest of the day was spent packing up her belongings.

''She was such a bright girl and was always so happy,'' said brother-in-law Vishal Verma, a Delhi-based businessman. ''It's hard to believe that she committed suicide. There was no problem at all with anything, she had a very strong and sound family.'' Verma said he suspects Randhawa never really got over the suicide of her close friend Nafisa Joseph, the video jockey who also hanged herself with a dupatta at her Juhu residence in July 2004. ''I think, subconsciously, she was always thinking about Nafisa and it was probably from Nafisa's death that Kuljeet got the motivation to take this extreme step,'' Verma said. Kuljeet's parents remain inconsolable. Father Gurbachan Singh refused comment. ''I've asked our relatives back in Delhi not to make any arrangements for mourning there,'' Kuljeet's elder sister Kittu Verma said. ''Mama is crying continuously and I'm worried that a sombre atmosphere back home will just break her down completely.'' Meanwhile, Kittu recalled some happy memories from just a few days ago. ''Cookie (Kuljeet) was so happy when she came to Delhi a couple of days ago,'' she said. ''She was laughing and playing with my younger son, saying she was so attached to him that she wanted to take him home with her.'' The family plans to return to Delhi on Saturday.

thanks priya for the article.
it is really a heart breaker, the thought of kuljeet just haunts me. she was really a bright actress, may her soul rest in peace. 😭 when depressant hits its really hard for a person to have control over it, i see this everyday at the hospital. its really sad.
