KJo's Father's Day blessings for Bobby

A day before the celebrated day, Johar called Deol to praise his 'endearing performance' in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

Blessed: Bobby Deol in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
A day before Father's Day (June 17), Bobby Deol was surprised to get a call from good friend Karan Johar.

No, it wasn't to invite him for a party but to praise him for his 'endearing' performance in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

Says Karan, who is currently in London, "I called him the moment I saw Jhoom. Bobby was superb in the film. His comic timing and dialogue delivery was extremely endearing.

I thought the film was s lot of fun and the entire cast, including Abhishek, Preity, Lara and Bobby, did very well. They all executed (director) Shaad Ali's vision perfectly."

Damn, I'm blond!

Has he ever thought of working with Bobby in a Dharma Productions film? "I would love to work with him and am looking forward to it. Bobby is a dear friend and an absolute gem of a person. I wish him all the best," says Johar.

Bobby, for his part, says, "The reaction to my role has been amazing. Karan was so proud of me. He said, 'You were so amazing and endearing.' His compliment is special because he is one of the people who wanted me to do this role. I'm happy I haven't let him down."

Initially, Bobby was apprehensive about his suave look in JBJ. "It's thanks to (designer) Akki Narula that my blond curly hair has been appreciated. I was apprehensive about it.

Since my character is part Indian-part British, they decided I should have blond hair. When I first got my hair dyed, I was like, 'Dude, this is not happening. This not me!' But seeing the response, I am very happy. The character is so well written."

The compliments are a blessed relief from the days when bobby was known as a 'wooden actor'. He says, "When people make negative remarks, it hurts but makes you want to work harder. Everyone believes that you don't have it in you, so all you want to do is prove a point to yourself."

Family time

So what did he do on Father's Day? Says Bobby, "That's a very Western concept and we Deols are a simple family. One should take care of and respect one's family and make them feel special every single day. Why reserve that only for Father's or Mother's Day?"

On June 16, Bobby celebrated his son Aryaman's birthday with a family get-together. Talking about his role as a father, Bobby says, "I try not to spoil my children. I discipline them but I can't be as strict as Tania (his wife).

Also, I never raise my hands on my them as my father never hit me. However, I do scold them when they take things for granted. I indulge them but never spoil them."
