Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mallika Sherawat
Karan Johar's show Koffee with Karan has once again managed to stir a controversy.

In the rapidfire round of Sunday's episode featuring Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mallika Sherawat, when Karan asked who was the most overrated director in Bollywood, Bhansali replied, "Kunal Kohli, Kunal Kohli and Kunal Kohli."

A source from the industry reveals, "Kunal does not like Bhansali's work and has voiced his opinion to some of his confidantes.

So Bhansali took sweet revenge and called him an overrated director on national television."

Kunal's wife Raveena Kohli is the director of Koffee With Karan, so there's no doubt Kunal heard about Bhansali's remarks way before the episode was aired. However, the director has chosen not to react.

Non issue

Bhansali's opinion on a fellow filmmaker has shocked diplomatic industrywallas. However, Bhansali is not repentant.

He asks, "I don't know why an issue should be made out of this. Karan's show is a light-hearted show and I just spoke my mind. I definitely did not mean any harm."

However, he stands by his statement. "I do think that Kunal is overrated. I didn't like his Fanaa, and I think I am entitled to my opinion. All of us have different ideas, likes and dislikes.

Aisa ho sakta hai that Kunal does not like my work. But so what? Even Aamir Khan did not like Devdas and publicly spoke against it," sys Bhansali.

Bhansali wonders why everyone is offended on Kunal's behalf, and why no one spoke up when Farah Khan and Gurinder Chaddha called him an overrated filmmaker on the same show last year.

"Why didn't anybody call me or Farah or Gurinder then? And Shobhaa De called me a neurotic. Did I react then?"

Bhansali blames the format of Koffee with Karan to be tricky. "Karan wants the answers — this or that. Plus one does tend to get carried away in the rapidfire round."

Hug bug!

Meanwhile, Kunal's reply to Bhansali's critique is this: "Mujhse Dosti Karoge made Rs 20 crore, Hum Tum made Rs 34 crore and Fanaa made Rs 100 crore."

All that he's willing to say about Bhansali's charge of mediocrity is, "I think Bhansali's best film was Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

I have not seen Khamoshi, though. He is a more successful filmmaker than I am and he is entitled to his opinion. I have nothing against him. I wish him the best for Saawariyan and I hope it does well."

When asked how he will react if he comes face to face with Bhansali, Kunal laughs, "I will give him a jadoo ki jhappi!" Carry on K-Jo, we love such masala!
