I am just here to do good work and make the maximum money out of it." So says Shilpa Saklani who has always had some controversial story or the other linked with her name. Her stormy affair with Sanjivani star Arjun Punj; her link up with Apoorva Agnihotri and then her consequent wedding ceremony — everything she did made news. However, this time around she is in the limelight for her imminent role as Kkusum. Replacing Manasi Joshi Roy in this prime time soap drama, Saklani will be essaying a protagonist's role after a long time.

How do you feel about replacing the lead character in a popular show like Kkusum?
I have been doing this for so long now that I am not nervous or apprehensive. Having said that, I am also aware of the fact that the characters are already set and I only have to step into the shoes of the actress. I just hope to maintain the standards set by Nausheen Sardar Ali. I think she was beautiful as Kkusum and I would want to do justice to her character.

In Kyunki your character has not always been in focus. Has that ever troubled you?
No, I have never thought about it. I am not a very ambitious woman. I am not a go-getter. I only want to do work for as long as I can. So, once I start my family, I don't want to feel the pinch of money. I am just here to do good work and make the maximum money out of it.

Once the Star Parivaar Awards were launched, did you ever work towards bagging an award?
I have never thought about awards. Last year, I won an award and I didn't even go to receive it. These things do not matter to me.

Between Apoorva and you, who is a better actor?
Apoorva is a star for me. He has better looks and a more prominent personality than I have. And I think that he is a fabulous actor. I long to work with him. I only want to stay with him and feel his presence around me.

An evening out with your husband is more likely to be...
With friends. We usually go bowling or go-karting. We might even watch a movie together at the projector at home. Basically, we are so comfortable with each other that it doesn't matter where we are.

The ultimate dream for Shilpa Saklani would be...
I want a picture perfect family with kids. I want to live a happy family life. I want to be there for my family whenever they want me. I would love to have two daughters.

Are you the adarsh biwi at home?
I love doing things for my husband because he means a lot to me. I will cook dinner for him when he comes back form work. I try to clean up his cupboard, which he messes up. I am basically there when he wants my aid. If that is being a adarsh biwi, then probably I am one.

She plays the sweet-n-lovable Kkumud in the serial Kkusum. With her screen presence and impressive acting, Aashka Goradia seems to have begun sharing the popularity with the protagonist Kkus-um. Being a youngster, how do you find yourself being a part of a television soap?
For me, it's not necessary that I play a young or a youthful role. I want to play strong and interesting characters. And it feels great to have your face appearing on television at 9 o'clock four days a week.

Which would you prefer, a lead role in a Balaji soap or an item number in Karan Johar's film?
I am not answering that. I will ruin both my chances if I chose to answer any one.

Do you fear that you will get stuck only to one serial and one character?
No, I know that I am here to stay and this is not my sole destination.

An international television series you would want to be part of?
Friends. I would be happy even if I could hold a tray in merely one scene of that series.

Bollywood actresses that you admire the most.
Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, Rani Mukherji, Smita Patil. I try to learn from all of them. I love Madhuri for her innocence and Rekha for her screen presence.

One Bollywood actor you would give your eye and tooth to work with.
Akshay Kumar. I think he is absolutely hot. He is like a Greek God. I would love to do the role that Shilpa Shetty did in Dhadkan. It would be amazing to have someone like Akshay saying all those beautiful romantic dialogues to you. I love his character of a well-settled businessman and a mature and understanding husband.
