Pallavi Subhash Shirke is Ekta Kapoor's new girl. Shirke will star in Kapoor's next serial Karam Apna Apna (earlier titled Kasturi) to be aired on Star Plus. The show will replace Kavyanjali, which is nearing its end.
Finding Manjari
The title Kasturi has been changed to Karam Apna Apna because Star Plus did not want the show to be called Kasturi. So, Pallavi will not be known as Kasturi, but as Manjari in the show. Kapoor tells HiTLIST that she had been searching for the main lead for KAA for three-and-a-half months, resulting in a delay of the show's launch. The show originally scheduled for August, will now be aired from August 29. "I searched for this lead in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Nainital, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat and Mysore. We conducted auditions at all these places, but failed to zero in on anybody. We even went through some CVs of girls from Pakistan," says Kapoor.
Kaun in 40 seconds
Kapoor knew that she'd found her Manjari when she saw Pallavi. She made her decision while watching Tumhari Disha on Zee. "I saw her in the far background, lying on a hospital bed. I immediately called up Doris (Balaji Creative) and Shalja Kejriwal (Star). I told them point blank that we have found our Manjari and we must cast her. Believe it or not, I saw her for just 40 seconds and I knew that she was the Manjari I was searching for. Itne paas thi woh, aur hum door dekh rahe the."
When contacted, Shirke says she almost fell off from her chair when Balaji called. "I was on the sets of Tumhari Disha, and I could hardly believe my luck. Next day, Balaji came on the sets of Tumhari Disha and took my audition test."
Ekta's new girl will not be taking on any other show for some time. "I want to give KAA more than 100 per cent. Such opportunities come once in a lifetime," says the girl who has dabbled in Marathi theatre and cinema.
Pallavi had some issues with respect to the contract and her remuneration. But some Balaji officials sat down with her and gave her a reality check. Says a source, "Pallavi quoted an astronomical fee. Later, she was explained that such high figures were not possible."
Pallavi starts shooting for KAA in Kolkata from August 1.
