Rakshak Sawhney
In a sudden move, Eijaz Khan has replaced Rakshak Sawhney as Kkavya in the daily soap Kkavyanjali (Star Plus).

This Balaji show, which was launched with great fanfare in Janaury, was hyped as a biggie from Star Plus. It was also pitched as actress Amrita Singh's comeback vehicle.

In a late night drama on Tuesday, the Balaji team roped in Khan to play the character of Kkavya, the charming son of Nitya Nanda (Singh) who falls in love with Anjali (Natassha).

According to producer Ekta Kapoor, "Rakshak is not well and cannot shoot.

We will be taking him later in Kasautii Zindagi Kay to play the character of Prem, the son of Anurag (Cezanne Khan) and Prerna (Shweta Tiwari) in our Malaysia shoot schedule."

Adds creative director Nivedita Basu, "Rakshak had not been well and had expressed a desire to take rest. But as it is a daily, we can't do without him, so we had to bring in a replacement. We have told Rakshak to rest."

Khan was pencilled in as the new Kkavya because "we wanted someone who has the Anil Kapoor in Lamhe look. Plus he has worked in our other shows," says Basu.

Khan also features as Sohan in Kkusum (Sony) and as Abhinav Pande in Kesar (Star Plus).

To make way for Khan to solely feature in Kkavyanjali, he will be shown dead in Kkusum next week and another actor will replace him in Kesar. Interestingly, Khan was also the original choice as Prem in Kasautii Zindagi Kay.

Model-turned-actor Sawhney, who was flight purser with Jet Airways, made his acting debut with Kkavyanjali.

He was more interested in a film career that apparently never took off. In Kkavyanjali, his voice was being dubbed by Sachin Sharma who plays Krishna in Kahaani Ghar Kii.

When asked why his voice was dubbed, Basu said when an actor's voice does not suit the character, they have to resort to dubbing. "We even dub Ananya's (Panchi Bora) voice in Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi (MTV).

Star Plus had pulled out all stops to promote the serial through a media blitzkrieg.

There were also auto rickshaws waiting at railway stations across Mumbai's suburbs to ensure that viewers get home in time to catch the inaugural episode of the serial which was aired on January 25!

Sawhney refused to comment, but apparently there is more than meets the eye in this twisted tale.
