A note on people: It's very easy to say we all have a bit of good an a bit of evil in us. It's also true, we do. But the extent of it varies-not because of the amount of its presence but because of the amount of will we are able to exercise over our base animal tendecies. There are plenty of people in this world to whom a good deed is second nature, who have exercised this discipline on themselves to the point that they won't commit a crminal deed, no matter what brink they are pushed to. They might do something in self-defense or the defense of a loved one, but never simply because a desire did not get fulfilled. These are the world's greats, the everyday people who live their lives out with honesty and integrity, the true successes even if they make just enough to get by but still know the meaning of contentment. Some transcend even that-they're all very much human but they're also made more than merely human by the fact that they have made the conscious decision to make peace with their inner self and to not give in to that voice which lesser, weaker-willed people justify themselves by saying it's so easy to give in to, no matter what. I've been waiting to see this done in popular media for a long time, not the bechari bahu ka tyaag type, but an actual character-male/female whatever, who was strong enough to not give in to what was wrong even when pushed to a breaking point. It came in the most unexpected of places, but finally it did. A character who was disciplined, a man who could threaten, who was strong enough to fall on his knees and beg but for whom it wasn't even within the realm of possibility to do a wrong deed, who could never even think of harming someone else. It was nothing extraordinary, normal people do it all the time. But it was extraordinary because so little of it is shown anymore.
Anyway, just some musings here. Back when KMH started, the biggest question on my mind used to be-will they do it again? The 'it' refers to a sudden train of depression which tends to grip Balaji Telefilms creatives at the most climatic of moments, right when the story is about to take that pivotal turn which could make or break it. The most perfect of stories will stop making sense, characters will start doing things which are totally unlike them. Anyone who has even the sightest of ideas regarding the general storylines of previous BT shows will know exactly what I mean here.
The point is, back when KMH starte it seemed like the very essence of that asinine instinct for dejection distilled to perfection. It started with a guy in jail after-all. Tale of a luta-pita aashiq where everything's going to go wrong. But that big moment didn't come. Sure there were messes aplenty but nothing extravagantly extreme, at-least by Ekta standards.
But then, out of the blue it struck-or at-least something that was suspiciously similar. The track of the past few weeks was starting to seem like an extremely ripe time for all that pent-up need for destruction to come flooding out again. And KMH becomes the tale of another jilted lover who took up a gun and ruined his own life and that of everyone else. And my big question was back-will they do it again? The 'it' in this case would have been showing an actual death at the hands of Arjun because the character of AP was never someone who could stoop so low as to kill someone just because he couldn't get what he wanted. He was mature, disciplined, sensible and a whole lot of other things but never mean or weak.
But they didn't do it. And boy, am I happy. Last week was a week of stellar performances (for the most part, enough to ignore anything which might not have been right) for everyone-creatives, actors, everyone-even the music people are starting to show signs of catching on again. It's sad that HP was shown as the one to go because Hiten simply couldn't leave the show. Virendra ji has been outstanding, regardless of how his character was changed and it was quite a loss.
But now at this point, all the vistas are open. KMH stands third on Imagine's list, one of only three daily shows which have managed to cross the 1.0 mark. It would be idiotic to end it even though the pace suggests otherwise. Also, there is no longer that one predetermined point of prison that the story has to head toward so really a much wider scope for creative freedom.
Yesterday's epi: Beautiful transition. It really felt like the passage of time, a considerable amount of time which made a huge difference in the lives of all involved. Knew Kritika could pull the new rich and powerful Arohi off and she did. It's the same girl but changed in so many ways and yet it's not another person entirely. It's still Arohi but somewhere deep down and asleep. Felt bad for Savita-her eklauta ladka has lost all sense. She should take to him with a danda when he gets out, knock some brains back into functioning capacity. Pretty much everyone else has had a go, why not her?
I really want to see the story take a route along the lines of Taal, not exactly but close. So many things which can really bring this full circle back to the original KMH we love.
-AP realizing his responsibility toward his mother, co-operating with GR in coming out of jail. Heck, for all he knows even DK's a saint. He does have duties toward his parents, especially being an only son, which he has to fulfill. This can even lead to a return of the H&M AP, but changed, a bit softer.
-Akshita the diva's full-blown hatred and then reconciliation with her original self. The story is really sad and lonely at her end. AA really need to be happy again once and for all.
-Return of humour to the show. Someone, please. Possiblities galore once AP gets out of jail. Salil and Poorvi are still desh-bhakt enough to have stayed in India afterall.

-> BT waalas have been getting things so right these days, just hope they don't try and do a Kasauti here if the show does get continued. AP has too much backbone to pull off Anurag Basu.
->"Akshita's" home is the same set that was used for the Nanda's residence in Kucch iss Tara??.alarm bells beginning to stir. Please don't end it that way, any ending but that. I can even take Ganga Mata and AP riding a pony into the sunset, but with at-least SOME halfway coherent explanation!!!
