Ok, here goes. I was originally going to do a take on the whole week's episodes but not anymore because for once they got it right. So I'm not going to go into what was wrong, what could have been better, what they should have done. I'm just going to list out everything that was right about yesterday's episode, but first.
This episode was the one, the one where everything becomes right, before collapsing into an even bigger mess. We know what the mess will be here, or at least how it will end up for one of the characters. It's definitely not going to end in happily ever after, so I really don't want them to show too much happy stuff either, it'll just be that much more stark a contrast when things start going bad.
-Arjun's reaction: There was a fair bit of foreshadowing here, but the main thing was his conviction in his own decision, that what he did was the correct thing to do, come what may. More on that later.
-Hari Prasad ji's reaction: Virendra Saxena ji was simply outstanding, from the scene with him sitting in the apartment to the chat with Arohi-wonderful, all of it. After a very long time, you could see Pandit Hari Prasad again. He was real. The stand taken by his daughter at the PS finally got through to him and he was ready to relent. It was a real reaction-that of a parent and not of a character conveniently turned into an irreconcilable villain to solve the story out for you because you couldn't think of anything else.
-DK's reaction: Yeh kahaan se aaye? This bit was a little out of the blue and it ended just as abruptly but maybe there's something here that hasn't been shown yet, something which might be revealed later and hence the ambiguity. At any rate, he seems to be turning over a completely new leaf, acquiring new shades not originally expected out o f this character. His comparison of his own actions with HP put things very nicely into perspective. They're virtual opposites and yet they reacted in the same way. Although…..DK ji, aapne Arjun ko kab nikala tha? Wasn't he the one who left you? Senti moment mein trying to make yourself look good?
-Meetu Bua: It has been so sad seeing a fine actress like Sudha Shivpuri being wasted in the background with a bare minimum of shots to justify her presence. She's the legendary Baa, after-all. What a relief that she finally got her scene. Meetu Bua ji, no more hard feelings. Kal ke baad to aapke agle ek crore conflict creations maaf.
-Arohi: The real scene stealer was, of course, Kritika Kamra. She's been on a roll this entire week and yesterday was a fitting culmination to an outstanding week of performance. Her reactions in the last scene though were a little strange, she didn't seem happy or maybe it was just supposed to be surprise at HP's change of heart. But she played out the completely shattered daughter to the hilt.
A note on love stories:
I've always hated the so-called "Great Romances" of the world. Why? Because they're almost always about people who never thought beyond themselves, people who convinced themselves that they were in love and so they could do as they wished, because their "love" gave them that license. They never even stopped to consider that love exists in other, purer forms too. They never gave a thought for their own families, much less each other's, and their romance itself was almost invariably infatuation and attraction masquerading under the convenient title of love. So, Romeo kills Juliet's cousin, Majnu kills Laila's brother but oh no, love eternal. What to do? Love is selfish and blind and it comes first, before every other relation, no matter how old, no matter how strong or binding. And that's why it has been a very refreshing change to see AA give so much importance to each other's families, whether it's Aro's bringing DK to the lunch or essentially everything AP's done to make sure she doesn't lose the family she values so much for him, a decision she's bound to regret later. This sort of thing is necessary later in the story, when you evaluate everyone's actions to see what they really deserve from here. AA have in a larger perspective done mostly everything right, they're very much justified. So even when things do go wrong, we can maybe still hope for a happy reunion because already they don't deserve half the bad things that have happened to them.
So yeah, no criticism from me for today, nothing real anyway. Wondering what KS's reaction will be after everyone does an about turn on him, even Pujya Bauji, and after all the mahaanta he showed at the police station too.
