Dear Ms. E. Kapoor:
Congratulations! You have developed a phenomenal product in Kitani Mohabbat Hai. I am a huge fan and you know we fans are slightly nutty. In keeping with that I would like to do a SWOT analysis for you. Being a businesswoman, I am sure you have done one already. But, I thought I would do one for you from a fan's perspective and at the same time try to sneak in some totally unsolicited advice. If you have questions then feel free to contact me and my hypercritical, but sweet friends at Ria's Adda or N's cafe on India Forum!
I am confident you know what a SWOT Analysis is, but I am C.C. this letter to my friends 'in case they don't know let me explain ' Na? Its a Marketing Analysis Report/Shepport ' What does SWOT stand for welling in keeping with the KMH Anagram tradition "S= Strengths, W=Weakeness, O=Opportunity, T=Threats.

So, as we can all see KMH's Television Rating Point (TRP) has gone up the last two weeks by more than 0.3%. Why has it gone up? Because everyone loves the Arjun ' Arohi love track. It's been fresh and creative. Even the scenes that are copied like the elevator and mouse scene (similar to KTH) are fresh because of Karan Kundra and Kritika Kamra's portrayal of Arjun and Arohi. They are not perfect, but in their imperfections lie their perfections. Their acting is improving everyday and they manage to hold their own very well in scenes with some very senior actors. Arjun Punj and Arohi Sharma's innovative love story (thus far) is the biggest asset of KMH. On that point, we your loyal audience would appreciate it if you could do something HATKE and keep to your promise of not creating love triangles on this show.
Other positives you have so far for the most part is the scriptwriting and directions. That being said, there are few things we would recommend on this front: (1) Its rather annoying and inconsistent with her modern portrayal for Arohi to call her boyfriend "Sir". (2) we would appreciate if you could suggest to the writers that they not use words like "middle class" and ghissa pita over used dialogues particularly during Powerful monologues. As for directing, as good as it is ' sometimes the devils in the details. For instance on the episode where Arjun gets the ring delivered (the box color changes in the middle of the scene) and it is unclear how many years DK and Savitha have apart (16? Or 20? Years) - the number keeps changing back and forth every day.
Weaknesses:
As good as KMH there are few weak spots that it wouldn't hurt for your team at BT to take a second look at. We think this show has the potential to be HATKE and we would love to help your team achieve the goal you have set for yourself to truly HATKE. So, what would make this show Hatke? To quote one of our favourite KMH characters ' "Kabhi toh kuch original kijiye?" There are two areas where KMH particularly falls apart on the originality stakes:
1. Costume
You have two very attractive leads in Karan and Kritika. Take advantage of that. Give them better clothes particularly Kritika. We are really really really tired of seeing her in dozen permutations of the same dress or in dresses that she shares with other BT heroines like Aditti Gupta on KDMHMD or Pooja Bose on TPLS. As for Karan ' we worry when we see him in the same clothes day after day after day like when he wore the sweater he wore for over a week. Marketing requires proper packaging. You have a great product, show case it properly now.
2. Set/Location
Something that would take the show to the next level ' new sets AND locations. We the viewers appreciate that it is a recession, but can't help but notice that its all the same building (PM Media headquarters =cafe = bar , mall =hospital) , same garden (Sukh Niwas garden =Arjun's school garden= Contest location garden), and old set (Sukh Niwas = same set as KTH/KSBBT/GGKK) set.
That being said, we appreciate your efforts to Reuse (extras, lcd screens, senior actors from other BT shows, flowers, bathrooms, mirrors, chairs, sets, locations), Reduce (faster story lines, Karan's use of eyeliner, and Kritika's use of glycerine), and Recycle (plot lines ' i.e. hero humiliates heroines family in public, rich boy falls for poor girl, boy goes to jail for girl, etc.).
Opportunities:
Here is what you can cut to get the money to invest:
- HP ' if he dies because of Arjun it would bring a twist to the tale and as senior actor he costs most
- Antara/Sur ' they don't have much screen time & you could easily send one of to school somewhere
- Aman ' this show already has a player (Nikhil) ' you don't need another one.
And here's what you need to build on:
- Arjun -Arohi love story -Two unique characters full of fears, insecurities, and junoon ' what more could a viewer want or ask for??
- Salil- Purvi Love Story ' they are your chance to do something Hatke without Melodrama (keep it simple, silly - She's a widow, so what??)
- Savithaji and DK ' There is a story there ' give it to them and their talent may just surprise even you
Lastly, I know you want to be Hatke, but don't give us unnecessary Jhatke!!
- What am I talking about? The Publicity stunt not the car one from last week - it diminishes the BT brand, so don't give us unnecessary Jhatkes in your efforts to be Hatke.
Threats
There are plenty out there with a similar audience that KMH must compete with (Bidaai, YRKKH, Raja Ki Aayegi, etc.). The way to counter those shows is to be equally wholesome and innovative with both our love birds. Don't keep them apart ' Show us it's possible to have tension without separation.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
A (on behalf of the Adda)
