Part 18

The storehouse, although located in the same premises, was much more hidden due to the magnificent tall office building of Singhania Industries. It had always been mandatory for the Singhanias to have it around, in the premises. Rudra Pratap Singhania wanted the heavy security imposed on his office to be extended to the warehouse. In more ways than one, the WH was more important than office. The plush high-end glass marble building held a sophistication which was essential for the white collar business that RP potrayed to the world. But the dark, dingy, rustic warehouse was where all the documents and evidences of "what goes behind the business" were stored. And Rudra Pratap Singhania could never take a chance in making that significant piece of structure vulnerable.

The small gate which led from the office building to the wareshouse was locked. It was not mandatory to man that gate as it was used only by the Singhanias and their very close support staff, people who knew about the dark side of the world, existing in their corporate haven. Rest of the labour and security used the back gate where there was heavy security who could not allow even a fly to enter the compound without the necessary checking and information. Billu was one of them, who was allowed to use the Singhania gate. He was Arjuns right hand, but Arjun considered him as his brother. Even though some did look down upon him as not being blue-blood enough to be given such perks, as long as Arjun was in the business noone would dare voice that opinion.

The gate was already unlocked as Billu appoached it with the duffel bag. They had clinched a deal today, and he had done it all by himself, without Arjun around. His Bhai will be so proud of him. The cash needed to be stored in the warehouse, so that it can be used in cases of emergency. If the gate was unlocked, it meant that someone from the Singhania's was already in the storage space. Was it Arjun? Billu smiled at the thought that he will be able to share the good news with his brother soon.

As he approached the door, he heard two voices. None of them belonge to Arjun. His footsteps stilled as he tried hard to make out the owners of those voices. He could easily make out who the man was, but the woman, he could not figure out. Living and working with the Singhanias had taught him one thing, never overhear what your bosses are discussing. If you get caught, then the punishment was severe. Even though he was doing wrong work, his morals were still in place. He decided to announce his presence, but then he stopped. He HAD TO overhear the rest of the conversation. Because they, were discussing Arjun.

"Is that a challenge??? Then. Watch. Me."

The words resonated again and again in Arjuns mind. He had worn a hole in the carpet by his constant pacing around. He felt like throwing something, breaking someone, shouting aloud, killing someone. The only one person who knew how to drive him to insanity was his wife. And to top that, she was completely unpredicatble. Cherry on the cake!

He was scared because he didn't know what she would do next. No, he was not scared. He was worried. He did not like situations forced on him where he had to react on impulse. He was too vulnerable when impulsive, he had learnt this too early in his age. Thus he had trained himself to be ten steps ahead of everyone, his family, his clients, his colleagues, everyone! That gave him the opportunity to dictate the situation and control the future. However, lately he had felt that everything had flown completely out of his control. There were too many things attacking from all ends and distracting him. If it was just work then he would tackle it in a minute. But this was tackling people, handling emotions, strategising feelings. He had no control over someone elses reaction and that made him clueless after a point.

Well, he was Arjun Singhania, and he was no longer the lost child whom Rudra Pratap had adopted. He was a business man, a gangster in reality and a complete rogue. If things were not moving as per his liking, then he knew how to MAKE THEM! He was distracted because he allowed himself to be distracted. He had to tackle one thing at a time and he will be on track again. He had to stop browbeating himself and take action.

With his father holding him on the rocks edge all the time, his wife throwing tantrums like a child, his child acting like an adult and playing matchmaker, with Mikhail and his hidden agendas, Natasha and her sickening pretentious lust wrapped in the fake covering of love, his work demanding his attention which seems to have gone on vacation and not to mention the mini army operating out of his house to try and fix his love life. The army whose soldiers aged from years 6 to 60!!! Anyone could get distracted.

Arjun paced some more trying to gather his thoughts, completely determined in not missing a single thing or person which had been affecting his life.

"Mujhe kuch nahi pata' Yeh kaam hojana chahiye aur wo bhi jald se jald. Bas."

"Don't take that tone with me Mikhail. Mein tumhare baap ki naukar nahi hoon."

Mikhail gritted his teeth. "Tumse kitini baar kaha hai don't take names. Agar koi hamari baat sunn raha hoga hai toh!"

The girl left out a breath. "Kitne bade darpok ho tum. Tumse achha toh Arjun hai. Apni jaan hatheli pe leke ghoomta hai. No wonder your dad likes him more."

"JUST SHUT UP! Maine tumhe yaha tumhe Arjun ki tareef karne ke liye nahi bulaya hai. Mere kaam ka kya hua woh batao!"

"Offooh! Tum bohat impatient ho. Har cheez ka ek waqt hota hai. Arjun ke marne ka abhi waqt nahi aaya hai. Jab time sahi hoga to mein tumhe pooche bina hi usse goli maar dungi. Tab tak have some patience."

Billu body jerked in reaction. He consciously forced his physical self to not make any sudden movements. They were planning Arjuns murder??? So casually? The thought itself sent his blood boiling. But he had to be smart, he did not know if there were anymore people inside. And one of them was Mikhail. All said and done, he was a Singhania! If he did not have enough proof to support his allegation then noone would believe him against their own blood. Moreoever, Arjun would want to deal with him himself, and not take the matter to his family. It was better to gather as much information as he can and alert Arjun.

He hid back more against the stack of gunny bags so that he was not easily noticed. Luckily he was wearing black shirt and trousers and hence was easily camouflaged in the shadows.

"You think im going to sit back patiently and wait for you to do your work without knowing when? Tum shayad jaanti ho ki hamare business mein kisipe bharosa karna mushkil hai. And I don't trust you, for obvious reasons. Tum mujhe batao ki tum kab karogi mera kaam, and I will not bother you till that day. Aaj ka din aur chance, dono bohat achha tha. Arjun fir akela gaya hai apne cottage. But I don't know whats going on in your sick mind!"

The womans low laughter confused Mikhail. But it chilled Billu to the bone, the laughter had pure evil hidden in it.

"Tum apne chote se dimag pe jyada zor mat do. Leave the thinking to me. When I say I will do it, it means I willl do it. Isse pehle bhi maine tumhara ek kam kiya hai, which, you have to agree, was my masterpiece. Toh ab itna distrust kyu???"

"Kyuki ab baat Arjun ko jaan se maarne ki hai. Aur tum ek ladki ho jo Arjun ke charm se bachi nahi hai! Kahi last minute pe tumhare feelings tumhare iraadon ke beech mein aagaye toh'"

The womans steely voice cut him off. "Aisa kuch nahi hoga. Mein ek ladki hu, lekin bevakoof nahi hu! If you don't trust me then you can take your advance back!!!"

Billu waited with bated breath to hear Mikhails answer. The pin drop silence that followed was making him sweat profusely. Why was everyone behind his brothers life???

Arjun never worked with a partner. He knew how to work with a team and delegate tasks but never a partner. He was a one man army who had learnt to depend only on himself. So he would not be disclosing this plan to anyone but himself. The success rate of a plan was inversely proportional to the number of people involved in it, he always believed in that. He had mentally started planning his day right from the moment he leaves the cottage and goes home. Any chances of emergencies were noted down and anxiety slowly died away. Once he had the plan in place, it always made him more relaxed. Sitting on the sofa and tucking his hands behind his head, Arjun leaned back. Now there was just one minute tiny detail left.

FLASHBACK

Arjuns mouth suddenly went dry and his nerves started tingling with a familiar feeling. Ok' so maybe drinking was not a good idea at all! He kept down his whiskey glass and got up to go to the kitchen. Opening the fridge he pulled out a bottle of chilled water and drank straight from it. Replacing the bottle in the fridge, he walked out to the sitting area again. The fire burning in the fireplace had bathed the room in a soft warm golden glow. He loved the peace and calm that this cottage gave him. He had been a loner all his life, not that he did not love and enjoy spending time with his family. But eventually, he wanted his space.

He had always craved for that space after he had married Arohi and she had come to stay in his house. She used to follow him around like a shadow trying to mess every small thing that existed in his orderly life. He could not blame her, irritating him was the only thing on her agenda and she was just following it. It had pissed him to the core initially, but later on even he started enjoying their games. Finally there was a time when it was him seeking her out to make her day miserable. Arjun plopped on the sofa smiling, as the series of their fights flashed through his memory for the second time that night.

The clock struck 12 and he was pulled out of his thoughts. Leaning behind he jerked as something poked his back. Pulling the gun from the waistband of his pants, that was tucked behind, he kept in on the low coffee table. He looked around his cottage at the plain and simple interiors. The wooden windows, the subtle tapestry, family photographs on the fireplace mantle, his trophies from school and college displayed on shelves, the tastefully done bar and the minimalist furniture. His roving eye caught a slight movement of the curtains which led to the back door of the cottage.

Arjun smiled.

So Mikhail HAD taken the bait after all. He had purposely not told his family that he was going out so that he can announce it to everyone on the dining table, making sure Mikhail heard it! Picking up his gun from the coffee table Arjun moved towards the back door entrance, carefully. He traced his body with the wall, making himself as invisible as possible. He had switched off the lights so that the only light available was from the fireplace, and his eyes were already accustomed to it. He reached the curtains near the entrance of the lobby, only a wall separating him from his intruder. Clutching his gun in both the hands, he closed his eyes. Suddenly opening his eyes, he pushed the curtain away with his gun held hands, pointing the gun straight ahead and froze.

FLASHBACK ENDS

Arjun grinned. Problem solved. Now he had figured out who his first target would be! Arjun Singhania was satisfied with himself. The monster was back!!!

"No. I will wait."

Billus heart was beating fast. Mikhail had actually agreed to wait for this woman to strike. He had so much confidence in her? Who was she??? A professional killer? She certainly didn't sound like one. Billu would have mistaken her for an elite social butterfly who had met Mikhail Singhania for a quickie in the storehouse. That would've been definitely better than the horrible conversation that he had overheard. He had to warn Arjun as soon as possible.

Billu had put his phone on silent lest it rings and he gets caught. He tried calling Arjun again but his number was unreachable, which confirmed that Arjun was at his cottage. How did Mikhail know this? Has he hired a detective to follow Arjun too??? Every thought was making Billu more and more uneasy. He sent a quick text to Arjun, asking him to call him asap. He hit "send" on his phone and turned it upside down, to avoid the light from the screen to be seen.

He had just lifted his head up to watch Natasha walk out through the door of the storehouse followed by a flustered Mikhail.

writing has made me too busy and have not been able to catch up on reading other ff/ss/os by you guys. i apologise for the same. and i promise that i will read all the updates and comment real soon 😊

but i loved what arjun said... "Just shut up Arohi! Divorce file hone mein aur final hone mein bohat farak hai' samjhi. Inn 5 mahino mein kuch bhi hosakta hai. Aisa bhi hosakta hai ki mein tumhe divorce na du."
