Chapter 4
(Delhi)
As Arohi finished meeting with her family members, so she headed upstairs to take a little rest. She entered her room, as she stood, gazing at the four wall. She felt Ambivalent, as though, coldness bristled through her bewildered mind but a surge of flames merged with the scarf of her heart. The numbness enclosed her entire body. The sunset peered through the window as teardrops began untying their knots. The furniture formed a twisted maze upon the room, reaching their heights upon the firmament. The house was alive with the joy but the room was dead silent except for the intermittent moans. Sharp shadows began roaming around the room as if, losing the illusion made her more impatient about discovering the truth. The sofa and chairs where revealing deep grooves on the ground. Picture frames hanged on the walls, unmarking the memories.
Her eyes singled out a bunch of orchids, sitting on her bed. Her hands covered flowers as she took out the card in-between. Somewhere there's someone who dreams of your smile and finds in your presence that life is worthwhile. You're my best friend. Love you, Aman. There was knock on the door, "come in" Arohi said as she dejected the bunch of flowers on to her bed. "I can see that Aman is all ready missing you." Sara teased as she picked up the card. Arohi smiled evenly, it was almost unworkable to smile vividly when without feeling better within. The girls began catching up on what they have missed within these 3 years; it was an easy going conversation. "I know you will turn into a bridezilla if everything is not perfect for your wedding. As I don't want my little sister be stressed out, I'll make sure everything's perfect." Sara said quickly as she changed the subject. There were no straight lines; that single moment of embracing the book with all she had as the words leaked, it cleared her whole life with altered meaning."Di ...I am not sure if I should marry Aman any more."The right words may be effective, but no words were ever effective as a timed halt. "What?" Sara smudged her thoughts as she tired to untie the words. Arohi tired to explain everything to Sara, as she unfolded the events of the past which tied with string of time. Her sister looked at her with a sense of hollowness within her eyes, as the reality of each and every word from Arohi's become more intricate." He's a Muslim." The uttering of these 3 words was vain, as they divided. Arohi gazed at her Sara as her phrase off guarded her mist with the coat of her vision." But, between us was an unknown connection neither which he knew about nor did I, Bas pyaar ho Gaya." Sara face plunged with concern,"zindagi mein hamesha murkar nahin dekha ja sakta and what about mom and dad do you think they are going to agree?" Sara tried to cut through her view." rishta itne aasani se nai totay sakte and for the past" tears came to her eyelashes," mujse nahi chootha."
For the 3 years which had passed, she never received a call from Arjun, She didn't know where he was, but knew his family now lived in Hyderabad. For time and seasons that soared, questions created the friction. Arohi told her family that she's heading to Mumbai for a week to meet some friends, but her intention was different her words. She was indeed heading off somewhere but to Hyderabad.
(Hyderabad)
She got of the train, a glance down the road and everything looked crowded. Old men and women were walking slower, the young in a hurry. No breeze to disturb the sun's relentless. Once she got out of the station she caught a taxi and headed to the given address by her sister. The taxi stopped at a medium sized house, shadows lurked in the still air as people walked by, along with a faint smell of food hanging in the warmness of they day . Whispers and shouts of playing children echoed with the sound of footsteps that were coming from the locals.
Arohi knocked on the door wooden door. A unfamiliar women opened they door,"As-Salam'Alaykum"she said in a soft tone. " wa- 'alaykumu -salam." the women responded." is this hayat Ali (Arjun's mother) house." the women nodded,"yes it is, come in."Arohi locked the door behind her and stepped into the living room, her vision scanned through the room, until she could see a collection of photo-frames on the side wall, which drew her in. among loads of photos her attention got attracted to one. She picked the photo up and stared at it adoringly, it was a photo of Arjun. Her heart gave a little weep as she saw Arjun with his air force uniform. He's head covered with a military hat and uniform stuck with Aiguillette and medals. A sense of pride surrounded her as she looked at his face.
"Excuse me." Arohi quickly placed the frame down and turned around."Zara (Arjun's younger sister)" Arohi slipped through."Arohi!" both of them sat down and began talking, as time passed Arohi raised the subject of Arjun."Where's Arjun?" there was a silent stubble. Where ever Arjun spirit roamed, he made his sister promise she would never tell Arohi where he is. If fate brings our colours together then it let it be so. When someone takes an oath, they holding themselves in they own hand, Like water. And if they open they fingers then hope takes hold. But she broke the promise, "he is at the IAF Base in Haryana."
(In Haryana- evening)
Day later Arohi reached the base in Haryana; she sat down in a fairly small room as she waited for Arjun. All her possessions at that moment of time began pacing around her like if they were assigned. Just then the door opened; there he was in front of her. His eyes somewhat darker, which no ink would provide me. But after 3 years today I felt the zest of his grain again. she slipped her engagment ring of her finger...
