Chapter 8
As the first ray of sunshine touched Arohi's face, she opened her eyes with a smile remembering Arjun. It has been ages since she had got up with a smile. She turned over and curled up into a foetal position. She must have fallen asleep sometimes during the early hours of the night. Arjun was no more a threat to her peace of mind. She had always dreaded seeing him again but after last night funnily enough she felt rejuvenated'...refreshed. She was glad that she had welcomed the ghost from the past to visit her and take its toll. Today was a new morning standing at her doorstep with new promises and hopes. As for her own reaction to his blazing kiss, she blamed it on her champagne and the fact that he came unannounced and had caught her off guard. She was certain that it would never happen again. Only a fool would repeat the same mistake and at twenty-one she was more in control of her emotions. Life had forced her to develop a more mature stance and now she was ready to face the world.
The smell of some aromatic food and the giggling of kids brought a smile to her face. Knowing that her little darlings are back she jumped out of the bed and ran down the stairs to greet them. The moment she entered the living room two little angels came running to her, hugging and kissing her followed by their mum, Purvi and dad, Salil. These two two-year-old cherubs had been Arohi's fountain of life since their birth. As she cuddled their soft chubby bodies a solitary tear fell down her cheek. She had just so wished for her own but they would always be the closest to what she could ever call a family. Life hasn't been very fair on her '..
Arohi had met Purvi and Salil in Shimla fairly soon after her break up with Arjun. She had developed an instant liking for the couple and a strong bond of friendship followed suit. After Purvi had given birth to her twins Aayaan and Sanvi she had forced them to move back to Mumbai and stay with her. Her father had left her a very big house but there was hardly anybody to share it with. So when the Mittal family agreed to her persuasion she felt blessed and cherished again. After Arjun she had stopped living but these two "bundle of joys" had given a new meaning to her life. She had treated both of them as her own'loving and caring for them, being by their side all the time like their own mother. But from tomorrow her life would change. She felt the stab of pain and agony. Although Arjun had said that she was a very wealthy lady even without working but she wanted to do it for her own sake. Since Arjun had taken over the running of the company and had extended it world wide even her wealth had gone up considerably but it felt indecent to enjoy it without contributing anything to it. She felt it was her duty towards her dead father'.
The day went by quickly in the company of the Mittal family. They had taken the toddlers out in the park and then had a picnic in the garden. Aayan and Sanvi's constant chirpings and giggles had kept her mind away from everything. Fortunately both Purvi and Salil had missed Arjun as they had stayed back in their uncle's house last night with the children. So to her relief no awkward questions were asked. Purvi knew about her break up with Arjun but she had never asked Arohi more than she had ever intended to divulge. But meeting Arjun in person could have created some issues that she was not ready to handle yet. Later on after she had given the children a bath, read them a bed time story it was almost time for her own bed.

The offices of Sharma & Singhania occupied the second floor of a prestigious block in the heart of the city. It was very tastefully decorated and catered to all the needs of its employees. This was the new office that Arjun had bought and refurbished so she had never been there. And she just had to admire his taste. Arriving for the first day of her work she had felt nervous but Mrs Polly Rai, her supposed boss, immediately had taken her under her wing. Although she knew that Arohi owned a part of the company but she treated her more like her daughter than a partner. She had given her a tour of the office and had introduced her to all the other staff as the new graduate trainee who was to work in every department for few weeks to get a feel and then would probably end up in the finance department.
Although she was not happy to start working as a junior clerk but sooner she was glad that she had listened to Arjun's advise. There was so much to learn and running such a huge organisation definitely required high skill and intelligence. She could now realise the reason behind her father's being so very appreciative of Arjun's achievement in regards to the expansion of the business. Two weeks had flown by and still felt like a novice. Fortunately enough Arjun's was still at New York. Other than one official phone call to check on how she was getting along he hadn't bothered her at all.
"Friday evening at last!" Arohi mused. As she swtitched off the computer contented with her spreadsheet. It was almost six o'clock. Arnav was in Mumbai and she was really looking forward to seeing him tonight. He had done extremely well for himself. He went into derivative banking and managed to get himself a position with a top merchant bank in London. It would be fun to catch up on all his news she thought. And also she was hoping to have some quality time with Aayan and Sanvi at the weekend. She had enjoyed working but she had also missed her liitle darlings like mad. This weekend would be her catching up session with them.
It was very quite but then that was quite normal for a Friday as people tend to leave a bit early. Glancing at her watch she reckoned that she had enough time for a brush n'touch up. As she cross passed Polly's office she hesitated. The door to her office was half-open. She almost thought that she had heard somebody. She waited for a moment longer and peeped her head in. But finding nobody there used her own spare key to lock the door. Singing softly to herself she headed for the ladies room.
She was not going to change her clothes. She just touched her make-up, put a bit of gloss and unpinned her hair to let it fall. As she checked her image in the mirror she was quite pleased with the effect. As quick spray of perfume and she was all ready for her "date with her pirate". A smile instantly appeared on her face. Purvi had always insisted on her moving on but she had always brushed it off. But maybe one day'..
Arohi stepped out into the hall, all ready to go and meet Arnav. Just at that moment the office door that she had locked flung open and out came Mr. Furious Arjun Singhania barging towards her, a security man behind him, apologising profusely. "Leave it'... I will deal with this " Arjun snarled at the poor man and Arohi watched in amazement as the man almost ran from there.
She turned back just in time for Arjun to grab her by the arm " I am sure you thought that was funny...a stupid practical joke. My God Arohi ! Are you ever going to grow up? Do you even think before you do anything like that?"
Arohi shook her head in disbelief. It had to be a dream. One moment she was in an empty office building and the next moment Arjun appeared out of nowhere accusing her of something she was completely clueless about.
" Well Arohi, speak up. What do you have to say for yourself" impatience clearly evidented in his voice.
" I haven't got the slight notion about what you are talking about. Rather what are you doing here?" she asked in obvious puzzlement.
" Arohi I know you very well. Don't give me that innocent look. You deliberately locked me in that room. Didn't you?"
Suddenly the word "deliberately" brought back a lot of painful memories. "It seems Arjun you let yourself fall into the deliberate traps of people quite a lot'. she snapped back at him. But as Arjun's grip on her arms tightened she swallowed hard " Locked you in the office? I have no idea about what you are talking about. I didn't even know you are here".
Looking at the worried expression on her face Arjun tried to calm himself down. " Mrs Rai didn't tell you that I had arrived?" "No" she left about half an hour ago. Arohi watched him closely; she saw him taking a few deep breaths and then he closed his eyes and opened them again as if to decide his next move. She wished that he hadn't opened his eyes. Now that he had calmed down she recognised a mischievous glitter in his eyes.
"Sorry darling it was my mistake. What can I do to make it up for you" he asked gently touching her cheeks and pulling her a bit close. She could deal with an angry Arjun but charming Arjun was too much to resist still. Despite of all these years of hatred she was stunned to realise that she still found him attractitive. That night she had blamed champagne for her reactions but tonight there was no excuse. Just a soft, gentle touch and her body was already dancing to his tunes...
