One such Kashmiri girl, Khalida, saw her destiny drive her from paradise on earth to the city of dreams.
She has bagged the lead role under the Yash Raj banner, in their first daily soap Kismat. She will portray the character of a beautiful, young, intelligent, perceptive and caring woman, which is very much like what Khalida is in real life.
The economics major graduate never planned for a stint in television when she landed a good post in the J&K Bank. Later, her job brought her to Mumbai.
In a city that is constantly on the look out for fresh faces, Khalida's appeal did not go unnoticed for too long.
Once the acting bug bit her, she quit her job to pursue a career in television and Bollywood. "Working for the Yash Raj banner was a dream and I am very excited about my role in Kismat and hope this will change my kismat too," said Khalida Jan.
For a girl from Shopian - a conservative town troubled by militancy - the step of giving up a secure job and jumping into the uncertainty of the glamour world was a very brave one.
But having been spotted by none other than Aditya Chopra, who has a keen eye for talent, Khalida's future seems to be in good hands.
