Yet Another Mother-Son Relationship to Explore

You would think that when a child finds out that their mother (or father) is re-marrying, they would feel dissappointed thinking of the adjustment with a new father (or mother), a new family and that they would have to share the love if they get a step sibling ... all that sorts. But here, the first thing that striked Aditya's mind when he found out that his mom is getting married again was the Merchant Mansion and that only. He seemed afraid of losing the Mansion, as a whole, to some random non-Merchant as compared to worrying about having a step father now. It makes me wonder if he values power and wealth more as compared to family and relationships? There goes one minus point in this mother-son r/s.
The mother's no better becoz she leaves me even more confused. 😆 If you're marrying for the second time, the first person whom you would want to tell or seek permission/advice from would be your children, woudn't it? (provided if one was married with kids in the previous marriage) Instead here we had Devika asking her mother-in-law permission first (nothing wrong in that i suppose) BUT it was only her whom she asked! 😕 Why didn't she ask Aditya and Miranalini? Wasn't Mrinalini there when Devika was talking to Dadi? Then again, when you think about it, would Aditya even be bothered or affected by his mom's second marriage if she had told him? Does the mother know this hence she didn't ask him? Yet another minus point.
Looks like this mother-son relationship seems to be on the verge of breaking unfortunately. What happened throughout the years... i wonder.

Vini: COOL, you back with a bang with a post to think. 😊 I believe the mother-son relationship here is not the normal kind. He loves his mother no doubt but finds her too weak and have kind of distanced himself from her. He is more close to his Grand Ma may be because she comes across as a woman who is like him -- a winner.

An : Wowiee those words are like music to my ears! You kinda hit the nail on the head with that explanation!! That is so true. He seems to be distancing himself from his mother more like it. He didn't even meet up with her when he came down to Mumbai ... n the silent phone call wasn't any better.
Another reason for the closeness with his grandmother could be because she was the one who thought him the tricks during his teenage years..as compared to his mom. Looks like Devika was living in fear more like it. So he thinks his mom is his weakness and grandma is his strength.
Kinda upsetting though that he thinks as such.

Vini: Quite upsetting but looks like for him being the First Man of the industry is more important than anything else. The advocate rightly said: You are like your father but your words are like Gayatri Merchant. The call to his mother showed that he is still connected but somewhere his mother does not fit in his game to achieve.

Doesn't this indicate that Aditya chooses his relationship with people? Him distancing himself from those whom he thinks might pull him down the ladder of success. The opposite of his father, isn't it? I wonder how his relationship is with his sister.
The advocate did say rightly..though i feel like taking the "U're like your father..." phrase referring to in terms of appearence only 😆😆😆 ..and nothing else 😆😆😆

Thanks Pooja! 🤗

Vini: Aditya is respectful like his father and not condescending like his Grand Ma. I think his relationship with his wife will define that part. At the moment, he is young who thinks he has no chinks in his armour plus he is yet to lose and feel vulnerable. The real loss will define the man's relationship with others in the later years.

meh...the mother bores me.

Now according to me, it's the Grandmother who shines out the most! I like ARM and Grandmum's relationship and their scenes together. The grandmum might be condescending but she is after all a THE woman who has had the most influence on the success ARM has up till now and will do more in the future. She is a meanie to everyone else but ARM.
i liked their scene today and lol she's like "if you'd met me 50 years ago, she would have married him"!🤣

Aditya is fundamentally an emotionally strong personality as well as an achiever. Devyani on the other hand is not the same way. Aditya recognizes his mother's weakness and knows that her desire to please the person she deems important in her life will drive away any sense of reason. So when he hears about her marriage his concern is less about the mansion for me...it seems more driven from a desire to protect her from herself.

Howdy all🤗

Vini,🤗 awesome post. I still haven't managed to catch up so cannot contribute(not that I could, even after watching it)😆Could it be possible that in the time period the story is based in, asking the elder person was the thing to do? 😆

I will catch up as soon as I can and come back.

My thoughts are he is not really close to his mother. If I remember right, he was put in a hostel when he was young and of course is now away in London. He has been trained by his grand mom to always think that he needs to take the merchant legacy forward and put money 1st before relationships. But he still has that tiny bit of "I am also a son" left in his which probably explains the phone call.

Regarding mom not letting know the son or the daughter I think she is so controlled by MIL and is so relieved by her acceptance (does she have it ? I mostly watch bits and pieces and make up based on Kane and Abel) that she just cannot think of talking with sonny boy. Probably also add the fact that even though she is the mom she never really got treated as the mother as all major decisions were made my MIL. The daughter am not sure !

btw nice post !
