first, I want to say that I was waiting for your write up.π. I really really enjoyed reading it and had afew good laughs.ππ. Now for my comments.
hmm. for a wednesday episode, it was an okay one, no? hmm, and it's been a long three days. i should just get some sleep. no? if you get fursat from watching it for the upteenth time as most of us have π³
ππ it's just that there were soooooo many things that backfired in dirtchachi's face today. how can i not gush about them?? ππ
big thing: ashlesha's act. c'mon, of course, it was just an act, a strategy. if it wasn't, then dirtchachi would have coming running from anywhere to stop her ("shut your mouth, okay")! instead only banana-spine husband did. mother and daughter were betting that more emotional blackmail on son through father would surely get prem on his knees crawling, begging for forgiveness from ashlesha, making promises. hmm not sure if this was planned. he was in the mandap and they were getting married. why create further problems - or did i not focus on this part of the episode too much π
they don't know prem yet?? backfire-situation #1. and i was fiercely glad.
I loved all the fiercly gladsπ€£prem thing: not only is he too honest to tell ashlesha he'll "be with her forever" as his father wants. he is also too honest to look miserable (or shocked or whatever unindentified-pain expression that comes on the face of some of these vague tv-heros) you are so funny πwhen she says she won't marry a "statue of stone". and i was fiercely glad. π i loved his honesty too. very rare that too in a crowd
because it was only in the end, when prem with his arms melding heer to his side, that ashlesha began to realise that the statue of stone is a pillar of fire. and she has lost him. she has lost him. she has lost him! and she wept. and i was fiercely glad! yeah she was shocked - she underestimated the depth of his feelings for Heer
big thing: dirtchachi sees her dreams of getting prem floating away, maybe on the little puffs of wind that usually hover around prem's head. how do you come upw with these π€£she lunges with desperate hands to grab her dreams back, to no avail.
she shrieks out about her daughter's heartbreak (huh??!). she invokes the name of krishna. she demonstrates that she has probably been pounding wheat into flour by grabbing a sculpted piece of manhood standing at least five inches above her, shaking him like a rag doll with his head tossing from side-to-side and finally throwing him away like used tissue. (all guys watching this must be dumping gym subscriptions and signing up at wheat flour mills -- a paying job where you also get muscles and the help the world with it's wheat shortage problem! π) wow π€£ lastly, she invokes a curse on laluchacha (which i thought took the cake - can't only good guys, pure of heart, invoke curses on bad guys?). a curse that we all know that laluchacha is bringing on his own head, in any case. π€’ i was so angry at her - but reading this made me laugh - now when i watch the scene again (yes π) i will think of what your wrote
but all to no avail. prem is prem, honest in what he offers. his take-it-or-leave-it was such an amazing departure from everything that we know about public emotional blackmail. there's always a compromise. always except when you have prem. the very first time that prem wanted to say something to heer ("aaj pehle baar, tummey kuch kehna hai. aur aaj kehkar hi rahoonga...") he'd told her that he could face the whole world if his feelings came from a pure heart. and who has a heart so pure? (all stand up, and say...... "prem"! π) prem would not, cannot budge - it's just not in his mental dna. he remained true to what he felt and said
backfire situations #2,3,4,5 and i was fiercely glad.
(prem side-note: why not hc as krishna in the mahabharat? i've always thought he wouldn't do so great as arjun. but that farex-baby look can work for a krishna? π it'd be perfect actually, hc romancing all the women in the world, but winning radha and rukmini. what a brilliant set of stories for hc to shine! π) there would be mahabharat for hc then π
big(gest) thing: dirtchachi's tactical mistake of a lifetime - wanting to publicly punish heer for the failure of all her own evil plans. oooh, biiiiiig mistake. π she must have been really out of her mind with fury for even having gone down that path. probably her biggest downfall
and for that, i was fiercely glad!
(are you noticing how much fierce gladness i got out of this episode??? ππ)
yes, I did π
but go there she did. and reaped the backfire situation of her life. π because whatever stubborness prem harboured quietly on his face, came blazing to a tower of flame with - the injustice of it all! and that was what elevated prem from great to perfect. did not think of it that way - but you're right
big thing: heer crying for pity from her chachi, slapped down the stairs, tumbled to center-stage among a sea of stone-still people. who else noted that when meher's hand went up in a fruitless attempt to stop dirtchachi, that laluchacha's hand did too? for all that his brain is swimming in a sea of emotion driven hormones rather than clear thought, laluchacha still has humanity enough, civilisation enough to not want to see heer publicly tortured. we all have to give him that -- prem's father is a decent human being under the humiliation that he's self-suffering because of his son. i noticed that when i watched it and was wondering if it was meant to happen or was he just shocked by the scene - even gaya3 had very genuine expressions π
big thing: and i had to ask myself - why are all these people just standing there? that was one thing I could not take - I would probably have gone put myself between Heer and DJ and it would probably have backfired. But I could not take the reaction from all those 'dead' people a wise book once taught me that you never know people until you put yourself intheir shoes. if it had been me, at a wedding party, and a buzurq - an elder - from another family showered blows on a young dependent girl, all the while shrieking some excuse to justify the beatings, what would i have done?
honest answer is: i don't know. i don't. and it shamed me. π
prem (seriously!) thing: so i was even more awe-struck when prem stepped in and stopped heer from crashing to the floor. because i think part of his act was just sheer decency - that you just can't do that to another human being. true but I felt he took awfully long to reactπ
now, don't get me wrong. of course, it mattered that it was heer. but i loved loved that what he said first was "she hasn't come between me and my family" - not "heer". that he didn't even look at her until much later - it was as if it could've been any girl and he might have done the same. prem stood up to show decency and it made me feel better about life in general. π
little thing: btw, that catch was perfect. perfect. dirtchachi didn't throw her in prem's direction. he didn't catch her in the middle of her chest which is what would've happened if it was "staged". π€£ i thought so to - what a catch it was π³
what i really want to know is: in how many takes did they get that shot? how many times did poor ag have to get chucked and fall to the floor, or crash into hc, or both crash onto the floor until that shot was perfected?? i want to know!! π me too - they have interviewed hc and ag maybe they can now interview dj - tasneem and ask her
prem thing: oh, i'm not even going to start 'cause i'm sure that this post will go on and on and on. but what i loved π was how heer fit against him. i know π³
y'know, prem is very physical in his anger - he uses his arms, his head, his entire body to project anger. what was beautiful was that he did all that with heer against him - it was as if she was just one more layer of clothing draped over him. she fit that well. π³ you describe it so beautifully π
prem thing: the first time that he has done declaring prem and heer are one, and he is stroking her hair off her face, he goes "shhhhh" at her sobs and her tears. after that, .. my mind went blank. π the scene was just π³
big thing: of all the silly frozen faces being shown in mindless rotation, when prem is gentling heer, stroking her hair, wiping her tears, his eyes telling her not to cry because she is not alone, only two were smiling at their pb -- preet and harman. how sweet is that!? π oh boy, do i wish i had siblings - well, like them! π was harman's smile intentional? it looked odd π
and i'm fiercely glad prem has them, 'cause i think they are going to help him like crazy.
big thing: seriously, laluchacha is going to weep tears of blood for having dropped his brain. π€’ and because he had that one show of an act of decency today, i feel sorry for him.
prem thing: y'know if you asked me for the best hc performance today, i'd pick the last segment. i have never seen anyone as perfect as that - not yet. i believe that this track is similar to a movie which had shahrukh khan in it with amitabh bachchan. 'cause i remember seeing a scene somewhere where ab is spouting family values (parampara?) at sk. and i remember sk's reaction -- it was a damp squib compared to what hc did. i am serious. hc and dq scenes are a must watch. π
when laluchacha told him not to say bauji, prem obediently - mindlessly - shook his head. and whispered bauji again. when laluchacha reminded him about parampara, prem obediently - mindlessly - nodded his head. and when he reminded him that he had broken parampara for "a girl", prem obediently - mindlessly - nodded again. at one point, he was shaking his head in a "no" and nodding his head in a "yes" one after the other.
that got me. that broke my heart. above all else today. this is the choice that i'd been thinking "poor prem" about for the entire week, and it had come. i have seen prem struggle, i have seen prem choose. and i am not as thrilled as i thought i'd be to have seen it. i was more angry at his dad for failing to empathise with his son as Prem had already told him that he will do whatever he asks but that 'uska dil uske bas mein nahin' - i mean how much more did Prem have to express himself before his bauji understood him π
premi 1, son 0. but at such a cost. π
big thing: y'know i keep thinking that i've seen the best of the show. when i saw the prem-with-heer-in-jail scene, i thought wow, how are they going to beat that? then when i saw the mein-tumse-pyar-karta-hoon scene, i thought wow!, how are they going to beat that? i thought the same at the 30 second aisa-kyun-lagta-hai-heer scene (4th june!) i woozily thought, bloody heck, how are they going to be beat that?
so now i'm going smart. i'm going to stop wondering wow, how are they going to beat that? this bunch of actors (with their dialogue writers, camerapeople, editors) managed - even with the multi-coloured, tilting camera kekta-type-slap-thingy* tricks - to keep me glued every moment today to the screen. there was nothing i would add. it was enough. yes, they have worked very hard to keep us glued π
i'll say now with prem-level of clarity and conviction π : i'm waiting and watching and will continue to do so till i can't write an update for this forum with as much glee as i get to do everyday. hit me with all you have, people, i'll take it. π I look forward to your write-ups - you put your own little touch to the episode
highlight of the episode: the episode? π no? dirtchachi's distress! π prem and heer's first physical contact making a new joint body of prem-heer. it was sooooo worth the wait! π yeah the hug - well worth the wait and what a surprise π³
