* little thing: given that the damn cd began with prem's voice asking heer what's the matter, i can't understand why everyone was that upset about it. or why prem couldn't open his mouth and explain it clearly. meybe it was because he had egg on his face from trying to tell everyone that muckmeet is mad?
* little thing: i hate parents doing the big fat drama of hand-on-head as the ultimate sign of authority. i detest people slapping children, no matter how little or grownup they are. it's all so hysterical.
but if today's show wasn't hysterical, then it was nothing else, for sure! ๐
* big thing: prem tells his father he has no relation with heer, and my stomach plummeted to my feet. then with hand on head, he tells his father that he has no relation with heer, other than love. my stomach shot back into place! ๐ phew. you can live without a heart, but a stomach is a more crucial body part! ๐
* big thing: but, we also got prem the betrayer today. he'd told gayatri-mom that between the son and the lover, the son would win. but he wouldn't let the lover lose.
today he betrayed both. ๐
first, he betrayed the father - he showed how he was in love with someone other than his wife-to-be but had never had the courage to bring it up with his father before. it was a huge breach of trust, of honesty for the father. of course, lalu-chacha was totally muddled in what he said. (like heer, laluchacha got such dumb lines!) but imho, prem not having talked with him was why he was feeling betrayed enough to want to hit out at prem, his perfect son. ๐
and then, by running after his father, prem abandoned heer and betrayed the lover.
especially after hearing his father generally rip into heer ("that girl" from "my daughter"???? "you pretended to save the prestige of my hotel"??), without any provocation from heer herself - prem should, should, should have known that heer would be beaten up for his having fallen in love with her. after all his grand speeches about "burning the world if a drop of a tear fell from your eyes", he abandoned heer, left her unprotected, to the wolves. traitor. betrayer. how many times is he going to now burn the world for all the tears that heer had to shed today, all because of what he said???
* big thing: totally loved gayatri-mom trying to stem the floods of lalu-chacha's anger and hurt. she was sooooo desperately miserable for prem - from the very beginning of the tirade. she was fantastic. prem was right - she really is his true mom. loved the words, loved her body language to her husband, loved her body language sheilding her son. ๐ loved prem's body language with her, his hands supporting her. gayatri-mom and prem are made for each other. ๐
* big thing: what happened after prem and harman ran after their father??????
because after that, the next time we see prem, he's standing in the rain, with deadly angry eyes. a prem who is saying things like "he doesn't know what will happen tomorrow, but everything that happens today is out of his hands"? has lalu-chacha forced him out of the family business? demanded that he hand back the hotel to "the family" or to harman? it is important to know what happened - if anything happened. because if he's not the controlling manager anymore, then dirtchachi needn't set her sights on prem for ash anymore?
* big thing: dirtchachi's frustration! after all the careful planning, the ulcer generating stress of the strategising that no-one ever finds out that heer-meher are balraj's children and the original intended for prem and getting all her hopes up of getting the juneja wealth by getting ash engaged to prem, prem is in love with heer! ๐
after my first (usual) gag reflex when dirtchachi with her grinding teeth and bulging eyes comes on screen, and fighting the revulsion with her behaving like an animal, her entire rage struck me as marvellous: prem and heer were meant to be with each other, and nothing - including every single thing that dirtchachi has done - has prevented it. the gods, the stars, the mad spinning lady, the silence of prem-heer's eyes speaking to each other have won and she has lost - what a wonderful joke on dirtchachi! ๐๐๐ i loved it with a fierceness that wiped out the sickness of seeing her behaving like an animal with heer. ๐
then her wild, insane behaviour made more sense. she has been feeling this jealous, this helpless, maybe for all of heer's life! dirtchachi is the wife of the younger brother. who has neither brains, or ambition, or wealth. all her life, she probably has lived off heer's parents charity and has been jealous of what heer's parents had. when she got a chance, she has done all that she can to make sure that heer and meher are knocked off their position, that she can humiliate them because she used to feel inferior to them. but in the end, nothing has worked - prem still loves heer! go prem! go heer! ๐ณ๐
she has listened at doors, worked hard at finding out who is doing what, almost been a wizard at second guessing the "good guys" to make sure she wins. but all this time, she had no clue that prem is passionately in love with heer. heer has done none of all the hardwork that dirtchachi has put in. but prem is so besotted with her that he openly declares it for the world to see, even at the cost of losing his family! i wonder that she is not clawing heer's eyes out of her face. ๐ต
* big thing? i wonder at is her continuing ambition to get prem-ash married!!! after she behaved like that to gayatri-mom??? or is she thinking that gayatri-mom and lalu-chacha are irrevocably split, and she can get what she wants from lalu-chacha?
* big thing? another jealous person, surprisingly, is ash! ash, who probably thought that prem was a passionless, uninteresting, stolid guy. but now he is in love with cousin heer! and that too with such passion that he will stand up and take a million slaps and humiliation to say that he loves her out aloud! now suddenly prem is really attractive?? ๐
* big thing? vishaka is feeling betrayed by her mother. is this a "good guy" after all?
* big troublesome thing: what drove me mad was heer-meher's ignorance and submissiveness to the strictures of society. they are still not breaking any "rasams", that is for sure. worse, they don't look prepared to be breaking any of them.
are they really so very ignorant that they don't know that heer has power and is rich as long as she holds the deed to the land? have they been brain-washed by their parents into "respecting elders" so thoroughly, and without thought, that between the two of them they can't fight off dirtchachi abusing both of them???? at this rate, i'm afraid that if prem comes breaking down the door to rescue heer, she'll not go with him! i hate the way indian society brainwashes girls. this is precisely why i thought this show - set in rural north india - would suck because it would use these horrid cultural things to make us feel sick about us, our country. and i did feel sick today. ๐คขi hate these things about heer and meher. ๐ sometimes indian culture just plain sucks.
* big thing: why does prashant think it is so important for prem to marry ash? only to get the juneja wealth? or is there some other sinister reason? how did the prashants and the dirtchachis all get together in the first place?
* prem thing: when preet comes out to him, i was struck by how deadly prem's eyes looked. he was almost stone rigid with anger, he was grinding out his words. (btw, terrible job with the audio editing here -- i could hardly hear what prem said! ๐ก)
the cold anger became a flaming one only when preet mentioned heer having to marry muckmeet! so some fire is still alive to make prem-heer happen. ๐๐ผ๐
* prem thing: having that fantastic jawline had one interesting consequence of rain on prem: water pouring down his head ended in a straightline of water, continuously falling from hc's chin! ๐ it was rather funny and very visible. no such straightline waterfall was happening with preet's jaw, so it made prem's even more noticeable. ๐
but i stopped laughing when the brothers hugged. there was a sense of desperation in that hug. it was sweet. ๐ณ
highlight of the episode: it had to be preet and his desperate support of his pb. what touched me most was when he said "i'll talk to dad". has preet ever had influence with his father??? ๐ i thought it usually had the opposite effect to what was desired. no matter. he is still offering anything! to keep brother's spirit up and fighting. what a honey.
