'kay, onward on the big and little things i noticed:π
* gayatri-meher are so sweet together. whatever happens to heer-prem, i do hope lalu-gayatri-meher get to spend ever after as parents-daughter.
oh, ya, and preet too. π
* did laluchacha know that prem heart is elsewhere? like misty, i found that spiel of love forever from him to prem disturbing. my heart went out to prem looking tired to death, but still being gentle and firm for his father with his promises. at that point, i was considering parental abuse in the form of emotional blackmail. what would he do if prem did tell him that he was in love with someone else? would laluchacha actually force prem to marry ash?
* detective prem making leaps of inference just from hearing a surname -- of course, muckmeet is not good enough for his heer!
as if he ever was. πππ
* his mother thought that prem in love will be so restrained and controlled that even while he's pining and sacrificing for the love, the person will never know it. she needn't have worried. someone can push her beloved son beyond control -- heer. today was the first we see prem out of control: he uses his strength to get heer to pay attention. his eyes blaze. and his voice..!
noticed that in conversation with anyone else, prem's voice is always pitched deep and low? he rarely shouts. and when he does, the timber is deep. (remember, his saying "bas!" at the fat guy in the wedding who was accusing heer of taking money?) there were only two times, when it has become higher pitched: the first was when the constable brought out heer as the call girl. the second was today, when heer accuses of his "spoiling" her life. heer, quiet, unassuming, servant girl - the key to unlock the master's soul. π
* when it is unlocked, it is no trickle, but a deluge. it sounded like prem wanted to get off everything that he has felt since he first stepped into the country with a sense of finding his true love here. it was like he told the inspector at the policestation: it's no longer a question of wealth or money, it's his obsession against heer's obsession. and oh boy, is he obsessed! it is so deep that he comes across as slightly insane - those dips and pleas in his voice against the thunder and threats in the next second. any other face, and we'd call him mad.
instead, we call this one "prem". because even when he is totally out of control, he fights against himself. heer asks who the hell she is to him. it's a phyiscal effort for him to turn away and use the line that works on his mother: "i cannot tell you that."
* but not on heer! desparately loved her tough guy act. after tugging on his sleeve didn't work, she actually yanks him around to face her with both hands - and succeeds! π
* at the very end of monday's show, the greatest puzzle in my mind was: why the heck did they name the show "kis desh mein..." here prem has just thundered an unavoidable truth in answer to heer's question, and the music is going "kis... desh.... mein... hai..." - what the heck has the desh to do with all this????!?!!?!?! πππ
* both are slaves to their own principles. prem will marry ash for his father. heer will ignore prem's warnings because muckmeet made her father happy. the scene, where prem is kissing her hands and heer notices his ring (what is with this girl for noticing rings???), was incredibly beautifully done by both of them. he seemed to notice her stillness almost immediately - you can see it in his face. and he knows what she has seen, and what she will do. as she is yanking his hand away from his, there is nothing he can say to stop her. he doesn't even try. what i wondered at was that futile gesture, holding out his hand to stop her.
but when he turned away, i was so convinced of his hurt, that i expected to see the front of his pale shirt be rich with the colour of his blood, and a gaping hole where his heart was to have been. i expected to see him drop silently to the floor with the pain of his wound.
gee, can you tell that ending got to me???? ππ
* if i had to do the dirtchachi dragging heer off the terrace scene? i'd have replaced the high-pitched female vocals with total silence and one of prem's declarations with every step that heer took down the stairs. that would have explained the dazed, uncaring look on her face so much better.
* the best part of the second show (really) was meher and her love for heer coming through loud and clear. we all obsess with the love of prem for heer and vice-versa. gayatri, his beloved mother, has not noticed it. meher, her beloved little sister, has seen it, noticed it, and kept it to herself, without bothering heer about it till now. that calls for as much love as prem has for heer, imho.
and now, to bring it in front of heer, even if she faces the possibility that her beloved sister can get angry with her and shut her out. meher, who has always been terrified enough of being without a home that she tolerates her aunt and cousin, is now happy to live on the streets if her sister can avoid an unhappy marriage. go meher! π
