Radz jumped out of her seat, ran out of the cafeteria and down the busy halls. Panting as she ran, Radz dodged the busy bodies of people who looked after her retreating figure in awe as they wondered what could make a girl run so fast. She slammed her palms against the main door to the library and pushed the door without success. Frustrated, her hand fumbled down to firmly grasp the doorknob. As she twisted it and pushed the door open, bright florescent light flashed in her eyes making her squint. Quickly adjusting to the lighting, she finally made her way in abruptly, ignoring the glares coming from the group of students sitting on the table to her right. Her heart thudded fast as she slowly made her way down the rows searching desperately for just one empty seat.
After a long time of searching in vain, Radz finally spotted a small empty black chair sitting across a smiling and incredibly gorgeous man with spikes in his hair. She narrowed her eyes as she saw a fairly attractive girl get up from a table away of giggling girls and began walking in the direction of the guy.
Scared of what could happen, Radz ran with all her life all the while apologizing quietly, careful to not get noticed by a librarian as she pushed past the occupied chairs. Radz could almost feel her heart pounding out of her chest and her eyes teared up as she reached her destination. At reaching her destination, Radz fell to her knees and enveloped the chair into her arms. This chair would let her study for her Biology exam in peace for at least two hours and also save her from falling into being a victim to ragging. Radz had been warned by Bhav in the morning that today, she, Radz was the one to be picked randomly as a victim. Thankfully, after today the 'schedule' for ragging was completely booked for other more 'entertaining' newbie's in college. So all Radz had to do was survive today and her life would be back to normal and this chair could do just that for her.
Radz got off her knees as she heard the skimpy looking nerd in the chair next to her, clear his throat. Radz awkwardly got up from her knees and mentally scolded herself for making a fool out of herself. Giving a nervous laugh, Radz looked around awkwardly and then flashed an evil victory smile at spotting the girl that was staring at her in disbelief. Radz smirked and grabbed her chair and threw down her books on the table, sighing outwardly, relieved of feeling the hard surface under her hands.
"Umm..." Radz looked up from staring at her chair to see who the voice belonged to and was shocked to see the handsome guy with spikes putting forth a fake smile obviously irritated. She noticed how his eyes were shining at her as if pleased to see her the familiarity that they gave out to her was oddly comforting as she looked into those dark brown eyes. Baffled his smile, which obviously was a fake one, Radz couldn't help but notice the slight dimples that formed when he smiled or his strong, long neck or...
"Somebody is already sitting there." He said it in a matter-of-factly kind of way, completely full of himself.
"I don't see anyone sitting here." Radz replied back coldly at his attitude.
He looked at her a bit ...shocked but then quickly masked it and sighed as toned down his arrogance and replied back "No, I meant that...that seat is saved for someone. So if you could find another seat?"
Still gripping on to the top of the chair, Radz looked around the library and finally spotted one other empty chair beside a giggling girl talking away with her boyfriend. Radz shuddered at the thought of studying with her around and turned to the guy sitting in front of her. She pretended to inspect the chair as if looking for something and then added mockingly "Why? I don't see his name on it."
"It's a her." The guy replied back irritated yet amused. Of course he knew that he was lying, in reality there was no one reserving that seat but he also knew the drill with these girls; they would first take a seat casually around him and then...and then they began their flirting. He almost gagged at the thought and glared at the girl in front of him who he was extremely disappointed in. Deep down, he was hoping that at least she wouldn't be like that; she was so beautiful and she possessed some kind of quality in her that made her so different from the rest.
"Whatever." Radz hissed out as she angrily collapsed into the chair and opened her Biology textbook and began to read.
"Hey what are you doing? I said that the seat is already taken!" The guy almost yelled out but then controlled his voice after being glared at by the nearby students.
Radz slowly raised her head from her textbook and put forth a sarcastic smile and sweetly replied; "And I said WHATEVER."
The guy put down the pencil that he had been holding on to all this while and sighed realizing that this girl was indeed different, but him being the idiot he was, he had ruined it. He slowly leaned back in his chair and then just as suddenly smirked with an idea. "To think of it, the table doesn't have your name on it either Ms..." he paused "...Whatever." and rolled his eyes.
Radz narrowed her soft brown eyes, slammed shut her biology textbook and just as quickly got up from her seat and leaned across the table on her left hand and stuck her index finger in front of his face threateningly with her right. "You know what?"
The young man looked around awkwardly at the other students; a bit embarrassed before turning back at her, irritated. "What?" he snapped back at her as he bent her finger with his own to make it a fist.
"You think you're soo cool with your hair spiked up and all that don't you! I'll show you!" Radz hissed putting her hand down. She looked around for something, something blunt so she could knock some sense into him. How dare he challenge her, Radz, THE Radz!
Upon seeing a pencil, Radz grinned, swiftly grabbed it and sat back down again, pushing away the books with her left hand and scribbling her name on the table with the right.
The young man looked on to what she was doing and then smiled instantly upon seeing her write out a name, probably her name. He squinted his eyes as he tried to read her chicken scratch; A-r-a-d-h-n-a.
Radz finished writing her name and then threw the pencil at him and smirked, crossing her arms in victory. "There! In your FACE!" she childishly splurt out and instantly got shushed by the student next to her.
As she waited for him to reply or more like apologize, she looked at him in shock as he genially smiled at her for the first time today and stuck out his hand for a handshake. "Hi, I'm Mayank Sharma, it's nice to meet you Aradhna."
Radz looked at him with her mouth wide open, shocked and then instantly cheered up as she realized that she had just been tricked. Radz placed her hand in his and firmly gripped it, surprised by how well both of their hands fit together."Nicely done Mr. Mayank and my friends call me Radz."
"And my friends call me Mayank only." He smiled back.
