I had tried posting this first, but it didn't work. So annoying. *sigh*
Anyways, I was hearing Daughtry's song, and I fell in love with this idea. It's different from the show, obviously, but I hope you like it. Thanks to Meera and Bhav for reading through this for me!

Prem ran his hand through his hair, not sure what he should do. She was here, in the same town, in the same building as him. Just a little away. He could see her, could hear her laugh. But could he approach her?
She had told him not to follow her, but technically, he had not followed her. For six years, he had taken the extreme measure of her words, going so far as to leave the country, the continent so that they would never run into each other, so she would feel no pain, would never have to see him again. So she would never be confronted with his 'betrayal'.
Even when he had found out the truth, that he had never betrayed his Heer, he had stayed away. The hurt was not so easy to erase, not so superficial. It went deeper than his seeming betrayal.
But it had to mean something, seeing her again, after so many years of only living with her memories. Maybe fate was giving them another chance.
She knew he was there, she could feel his presence the instant he had stepped into the hotel. She had not understood it at first, the stirring in her heart. (Or rather, had not wanted to accept it, scared, because she had never stopped loving him. That was like not being able to breathe.)
But then, she had paused, because she had realised that after six long years, she was finally living again. All these years, all these smiles, genuine though they were, they felt incomplete. Without him, life was not complete. He was here, her Prem was in India, in the same hotel as she was, maybe it was meant to be. They could not live without one another, nothing had managed to tear them apart, not even death.
Six years they were separated, but maybe they would not have to be, not for the rest of their lives. She knew that even the physical distance had not diminished their love, because every night, she looked at the moon, and thought of him.
Somewhere, in her heart, she knew he did the same. So maybe, this was their second chance, and they should grab it with both hands.
He had mentally prepared himself for seeing her again, prepped himself on what to say, how to act, but actually standing in front of her stole his breath. Everything fled his mind but the angel standing before him. His life began and ended with her. Heer, his Heer, his life.
She did not look surprised to see him. And in her eyes, he saw everything that he felt. Apprehension, hope, determination and love, emotions that they needed to make this work. Without one another, they had been but mere shells, living, but not really feeling much.
The tears that he held at bay slipped down his cheeks as she silently mouthed his name. He held out his hand for her to take, leaving it all up to her. His heart pounded in his chest. Would she accept him again? After all his mistakes, all that had happened, would she take him back in her life, listen to him as he tried to explain the truth, try to make things work this time around?
The answer was obvious to her, as it should have been to him. She slipped her hand in his, and both made silent vows to one another. This time, they would never let go.
